The first thing that came to my mind was this. 2:15 (maybe 2:25 I wrote it on a paper towel with a sharpie...) to 3:15 is a nice build up and then shit hits the fan until 3:40.

Jeff Loomis - Miles of Machines

Then I thought about it and realized it didn't for me really surpass the maestro. So my favorite all-time solo would have to still be from 3:15-4:30. Yngwie pulls every trick from the six demon bag in this one. Wind, Fire, all that stuff!

Yngwie J. Malmsteens Rising Force - Soldier Without Faith.

Unfortunately it looks like youtube has been raped of any versions of this song so you will have to find it yourselves. Go buy Marching Out if you have to. It's a killer album anyways.

Until you can find the original, this cover attempt (of basically just the solo) is pretty solid.

See my new video playing Yngwie Malmsteen (Brothers): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZTRkwXQnNuUnew live stream playing the full YNGWIE MALMSTEEN MARCHING O...

Randy's solo in Over the Mountain will always be my #1.

The build-up is amazing. Not so fan of the ultra-fast-picking-thingy as it doesn't fit the song, but everything else is fantastic!!!

          2. Place

          It's a classic solo!!!

I still remember everything from the moment I first heard it. It was magic. It was soulfull and extreme all at once. It's the perfect solo!!

...three days is amazing. fucking LOVE that song. it's just perfect. so dynamic and powerful. i tell ya, while i know it's not the same album, nothing's shocking is one of the most powerful sounding albums i've ever heard. man, going from up the beach to ocean size...it's just....massive.

that said, my favorite guitar things ever are:

            1. the first note of the solo in larger than life, by kiss (studio side of alive II, solo played by rick derringer). that note just TEARS your face off. bums me out that it wasn't ace, but whatever, it rules.

            2. this wahwah toucan sound that dave navarro plays in the mountain song solo. it's just awesome

            3. johnny marr's delayed G chord that makes up "how soon is now?" by the smiths. just rules.

favorite solos? hm. probably the 2nd solo in crowley, the solo for shock me, the over the mountain solo, the SATO solo, zakk's no more tears solo, all of the guitar work in the song "brothers in arms" by dire straits, the solo in aerosmith's seasons of wither (as tommy says "the most perfect seven notes ever played" by brad whitford, no less), the solo in the black crowes "sometimes salvation" slash's guitar work in "estranged," damn near anything that lindsey buckingham plays, oh hell, there's plenty of awesomeness to find.

Nice. Being in a trib band, I felt like Ace did when we played that song. When it was solo time, I planted my feet and wasn't going anywhere. Weird as hell, but great.

oooooh, firehouse! great solo, and fun as hell to play live.

That solo on Iron Maiden's Sheffield 1986 bootleg. The song never had a name.

The one that always pop's into my head when this question comes up is the Ride the Lightning solo.I did like Kirk Hammett at one time(pre wah)and that song I think was his best.

Ace's guitar solo's are the most fun to play of any guitar player IMHO. They are perfect.

Oh yeah, Gary Moore doing Shapes of Things on We Want Moore is devastating. I totally forgot about that one.
