Agreeing with micha & mark here; your singer is not bad, but he really does need to forget about his shyness onstage! He's playing a character, so he needs to act out, act big. A bit of presence & charisma can go a long way. You guys need to have him face the audience (even if there's only 5 guys and a dude walking back & forth in front of the camera ).
Frontmen in rock / metal cannot be shy! I also don't like when he turns his back to the crowd - definite no-no there, just like when people shuffle in front of you at the movie theater, very rude to show your butt, gotta turn around ya rude fuckers! (One time I slapped this chick's butt with a book that did not go over well...oops went on a tangent there! WTF was I doing with a book at the movies? )

I actually think his stage presence is kind of cool for music like this. The spastic-but-shy thing works.

just tell him people say this "spastic but shy" thing looks cool and he'll be facing the crowd in no time...

seriously sinistas, you gotta work on how to word a compliment... :ROTF:

Well, he got wind of what the others were saying and I think he's gonna quit.

Thanks for all your comments. They do really help.

Well, that's not the solution we were hoping for!

Sorry to hear, Spiv. I really do think he fits, but that's me.

Oh, and I'd rather see a guy like that on stage than all of the toughguy deathcore vocalists around here.

that's really too bad. a vocalist/synth player that gets gigs and has no ego is so rare that i thought it didn't exist.

you have 2 of the biggest EGO band members wrapped up in ONE guy that has no ego AND works hard.

dude, that is a TREMENDOUS loss if he quits.

i had a band for 15 years with a singer that was, according to most critical people, "ok, but holding you back". well, for every person that said that i had to laugh when the band continued to get more and more gigs, sell more and more product (locally) and get BIGGER shows. yeah, his voice was an acquired taste, BUT he delivered consistantly and had passion in his performances. THAT is what took the band where it went and WHY it lasted 15 years.

if i had listened and replaced him, i don't know what would have happened but i am very happy with the life and success of that band.

i am sorry, man. it's a shame when internal band ego's get in the way of working chemistry and the sound of a band.

i hope you guys can find somepne that fits as well and has NO ego.

Damn, that's a great post, markd. Spiv, you should copy and print this thread, call a band meeting and have 'em all read this, and keep that guy in the band.

That is EXACTLY what I was thinking.
I hooked up my accelerator pedal in my car to my brake lights. I hit the gas, people behind me stop, and I'm gone.

I'd keep him. Your band has a unique sound. He is flakey and interesting.

I'd guess he'll leave and take 90% of the gigs with him. You may want to stay on good terms with him in case your band dissolves and he gets something else together.

Update: we had a meeting last night instead of practice and I think worked things out. He agreed to "audition" some of the other members on clean vocals and then we'll take a vote. There were some other topics too, which were all worked out. It's amazing how much things build up when you don't talk about them.

Also, anyone in Eastern PA, we're playing at the Croc Rock's "Elite Room" in Allentown on December 19th. PM me for tickets.

Thanks to everyone for the comments. Your opinions mean a lot more than a friend's/familly member's.

John, what do you mean by flakey?
