The Phillies had to give up Lee since they couldn't move Blanton's contract to make some room. Also Halladay agreed to the 3 year extension and Lee wanted to test free agency and try to get Sabathia money for 5 years. The Phillies won't do 5 year deals for free agent pitching.

I'd take Halladay over Lee also, Lee was a great pick up but Halladay is a monster starter.

The Padres own him for one more year and hopefully tell the Sox to fukk off.
Otherwise, the red Sox would be awfully strong at the plate and the mound.
I'm guessing that Clay Bulcholtz will be offered up for A-gon. another possible name is Nick Johnson and move Shrek to 3rd

Bucholtz will be offered , and if you guys land Gonzalez, and if Dice-K gets back to where he was, it's gonna be a tough team to beat.
If Wang was where he used to be the yanks would have won 130 games this year, if he can only get back to where he was it would even the field a bit between the two.
        lots of ifs right now.

I think I'd be okay seeing Clay go, although he's shown some signs of improvement late season, from what i vaguely remember. That said, I wish they woulda kept Masterson; he had promise.

Lackey is a humongous signing though, changes the whole team now.

my sons middle school team will take him, although he'd have the weakest arm on the team his bat could still come in handy.

He's still a good leadoff hitter. Very patient at the plate.

Fruitbat I love the Lackey deal, it'll be interesting to see what the Yankees pull off now as they have 2 holes in starters. If the sox aquire a-gone I think they will be the favorites hands down. It looked like the sox weren't going to do much this year so these signings were a shock

i wanted Lackey badly to shore things up, I'd have to say as of right now, it's very possibly your advantage as of this minute.

Looks like the cubbies dealt boo hoo bradley to the Mariners for Silva..why the hell would anyone want that attitude on their team?
Looks like Shawn's sons middle school team has a good shot at Damon since its likely the Yanks aren't going to sign him.
I'm worried the Cards are playing into the spiders web on Holiday.. yeah.. I wan't him here but damn is he really worth mortgaging the beer taps for him?

the only position Damon could play on Shawn's kids team is DH, not strong enough for left field but he still has enough pop to warrant plate appearances every game.

It might take him a while to catch up with the 35mph change up and a real strike zone.

Next Yankees deal appears to be the Yanks sending Melky and Dunn to the Braves for Javier Vasquez. I like Vasquez for the 4th starter spot. The guy strikes out a lot of people, but had some forgettable moments the first time around with the Yankees. Especially Game 7 of the 2004 ALCS.
