+1 I agree completely. I grew up on Elvis' music. I am still a big fan of his legacy. But I also recognize that he was a human with human flaws just like everybody else. I'm sure he put his sequened jumpsuit on one leg at a time like everybody else. what? You don't have one?

Elvis wasn't a bad singer, but he had more "machinery" in the background pushing him than actual talent and originality. Whhite guy singing Blues. Wow. Like that hadn't been done before.

As for the machinery behind the Beatles - that's actually more in the hands of Michael Jackson's estate seeing as how he bought their entire catalog many years ago.
Granted they were over-hyped back in the day, but just as they were about to settle into their niche of popular memory, MJ launched a campaign to turn his investment into a cash cow.

Now the same Capitalist Pigs that came up with the Ultimate Fuck You of putting Che Guevara's face on a t-shirt to sell at The Gap are blaring "You say you want a revolution" to clad their "same old, same old" agendas in the guise of "going against the grain".
I want to depart this world the same way I arrived; screaming and covered in someone else's blood

I actually like the Beatles myself, having said that, I dont own any of their albums nor play any of the songs on guitar.

People like what they like, just because people like shit doesnt mean I have to.

I can't stand U2 but people love em, I dont care for Kiss or think they are talented musicians so what?. I dont like blues-based pentatonic soloing in metal...but people do, so what?

yeah, certainly, instead of tie dye the hippies were wearing t-shirts of a mass murderer not the spoiled suburban kids of the same marketing douchebags acting all hip and whatnot

I love the Beatles, but the Stones were shit, and I don't get Hendrix much either apart from "Angel" really which is more than awesome.
                    Hope that helps. Somehow.

"I may be a little overly sensitive to pushy music fans." (from post #1)

The same goes for pushy fans of just about any form of entertainment. Upon hearing that you don't feel the same, they'll launch into a dissertation on the world-changing nature of whatever god damn thing and then link your disapproval to something vaguely related, if at all.
