Nope, never have. Guess I learned when I was a kid that it wasn't the thing to do when my uncle was killed riding to the bakery where he worked one morning by a drunken fuckstick on their way home from a club. The choad didn't stop for a red light. Been around 25 years now and my aunt never did remarry. I guess seeing the kind of lasting impact that drink driving can have on a person has stuck with me.

I will have one or two drinks at a bbq and drive home, but if I'm driving I'll only have a couple. And if I plan on drinking, I'll arrange not to drive. Anytime I've been RBTed, even after a couple of beers, I'll be completely honest with the officer on how much I've had and I've never, EVER blown over the limit.

Considering you're new here, you seem to know an awful lot about us all. I wouldn't assume that even half of responsible adults have driven while intoxicated, least of all to the point where they were so messed up they lost control of their vehicle. Think about that. How drunk do you have to be, to get in a single vehicle accident? I'd say you'd have to be pretty fucked up. Personally, I've driven while extremely drunk, and certainly didn't need to get in an accident, and get charged with DUI to realize how fucking stupid it was. For all we know, this behaviour might be a regular thing for the OP. It's just fortunate that he hit a sign, and not someone's kid. My father-in-law has put his car in the ditch 3 times from drunk driving, and finally learned his lesson. By his own choice he no longer drives.

I'm sure every place is different but where I grew up, people who get charged legally because of drunk driving are literally shitfaced, not because they had a beer or two. Estonia-Finland-Russia aka The Alco-zone has by far the biggest alcohol consumption (per person) in the world. There's a lot of drunk bastards over here. Everyone drinks no matter the age, gender or social backround. And people do not get drunk because of beer or wine over here. People are pouring vodka down their throats from bottles. But still all the people hate drunk drivers and everyone wants higher punishments for them. There's just too many accidents because of that shit.

80 days might seem extreme in comparison to Donte Stallworth who killed a pedestrian while driving drunk in Florida as well not too long ago and only served 30 days.

No question this was a tragedy - but Donte did not flee the scene, and they ruled that despite being over the legal limit, he was not at-fault for the accident. As in, he would have hit and killed the guy if he was sober because the guy stepped out into traffic. IMO - he does the time for drunk driving, but not vehicular manslaughter. But I'm neither lawyer nor traffic cop.

I get tipsy after 2 beers, so I'm definitely not driving if I've had a drink in the last hour or if I don't feel steady. It's so much easier to just sit at the bar for another hour hanging out with friends, listening to the band, than to try to drive home.

Well, I guess anyone would react quicker - but the question may have been that reaction time would not have changed the results. I've been in plenty of car accidents sober, and reaction time didn't prevent me from not stopping in time when some dope made a left hander into on-coming.

It also concerns me greatly about the amount of cunts driving around who never touch alcohol but clearly are unfit to drive through their dope smoking. When I see some of them monging about, heavy eyelids, shuffling round the shop buying fucking Hobnobs and crisps, I want to smash the shit out of them, especially if they get into a car and drive away. Considering how long that shit stays in the system after consumption, we need a roadside test introduced right now, followed by some driving bans and harsh prison terms. That'll teach the cunts that smoking dope isn't so cool, especially when you drive afterwards.

I guess this is the point, bud. Many of us have a "there but for the Grace of God go I" type relationship with people who get nailed for DWI.

HOWEVER..... hypocrisy is looked upon today as the absolute WORST of sins. It's not. You don't have to have NEVER driven drunk to tell people that driving drunk is 100% wrong. I will be the first one to tell my children NOT to smoke cigarettes, NOT to drink underage, NOT to do alot of things, having done them myself. As the saying goes, "hypocrisy is the tribute vice pays to virtue". You can do stupid things but still council against others doing them.

My problem with this thread is that the virulent disgust some are showing the OP. He f'cked up. Through no good actions of his own he didn't kill anyone. Stupid, stupid, stupid, careless, thoughtless. But basically cheering that he's going to jail? Hoping that he might get assaulted while he's there?

Don't try to fool yourself that somehow you are a better person (and this is NOT directed at you specifically Z) just because you didn't get caught... Just as HE is lucky he didn't kill anyone, he was UNLUCKY in that he hit a sign. For me, probably a similar situation to you, Zeegs- Stupid shit when I was much much younger, much much stupider. I am extremely ashamed of that behavior, even decades later. I will fight like hell to make sure my children don't make the same mistake. But I was lucky. I never hit a sign. And that's all the difference between me and the OP. I was lucky.

Learn from this and don't drink and drive next time You got off easy. My friend was driving drunk and I was in the passenger seat (even more drunk) and he lost control of the car on a rubble road - we took down 2 trees, a brick wall and flipped the car a few times within a few seconds. The car was upside down and caught fire but we managed to crawl out unscathed. Simply dumb luck. Can safely say that was the last time either of us drove drunk or got in a car with a drunk driver.
