Well, I got my first charge, ever in my life, a DUI. DUI, Crash with leaving the scene, which was a road sign. They're telling me I get to serve 80 days in jail, plus all the fines, etc. I"m really pissed, to say the least. Anyone with any experience on this? I think 80 days is a little extreme.

I don't think it's extreme. Drunk drivers are potential murderers, a lot of people get killed because of them.
Depends what and how much were you drinking/using though.

80 days in jail for your first offense? Hmmm, that does sound a little excessive, but I'm not sure of the laws in Florida. Things might be a little more harsh now than they used to be, and they should be.
My bro got a DUI some years back and lost his license for like 6 months. Then he got a second DUI a couple years after that and lost his license for 3 years (since it was his second offense within 10 years) and could have gone to jail for six months. He did jail time for only about three months, though. He was also a dumbass and fled the scene after hitting another vehicle, but luckily no one was hurt.

I do think it's extreme, and everyone is a potential murderer. Potential merely means the ability to do something. I think it's extreme because, this is a victimless crime. I know many of you feel differently, but how many of you talk on your cells while driving(or worse yet text)?

Also I agree with the getting a lawyer ASAP, I've personally had 2 dui's(many years ago). The fees you will pay a lawyer add insult to injury, however only a fool represents themselves!

Good luck, and don't worry to much about county jail - it'll suck, but you should be fine. I'd worry much more about still having a job after 80 days of unapproved leave. You may well be offered some type of work release or weekend time, as long as you have a lawyer and a job.

Counsel will get you probation and a hefty fine, think $5k and you're free or you can do the time and save the $$$. If you take the 80 days, you'll only do 40 max...

What do you lose being incarcerated for 40 days? Job, home, $$$, what's the downside?

Never mind how you are going to avoid getting your arsehole poked, think about what a dumbass trick it is to drive when over the limit. Not because of what might become of you, but what the consequences of your actions mean for the people who love you, those who may be left picking up the pieces once you have a REAL smash when pissed up.

There, but for the grace of God, go any of us.

Develop the taste for biting pillow or licking sac, then next time don't get in your motor when steaming. Result - the system works.
