The possibility of people getting killed because of a drunk driver is at least 10 times higher than because of a sober driver.
I don't have a problem if you drink a glass or two of wine or beer but when you get shitfaced then just don't drive. Too many people are getting killed because of drunk idiots.

It really depends on how drunk you are. "Legally drunk" is a crock of shit IMO. Personally, I'm fully functional at .08 yet I'm "legally drunk".

I know this because I have a friend in law enforcement who asked me to be a part of a demonstration for college freshmen to show the effects of alcohol. After I had passed a fake field sobriety test at .12 (5-6 beers IIRC) with flying colors, he finally asked me to ham it up a bit and act drunk ...and I'm only an occassional drinker!

That said, the fact that you had an accident points to the issue that you most likely were impaired and shouldn't have driven.

Many years ago I got pulled over. I was well over the limit, but I did not blow. I was EXTREMELY lucky that no one else was hurt during my time out driving. I got a lawyer and a couple of friends as character witnesses. I got a suspended license for four months, probation for a year, had to take their driver 'education' course, and of course the associated fines. Take some advice, get a good lawyer and start going to AA immediately. The judge will hear that and it will show you are at least taking some steps of your own to take care of the problem. Take your lesson to heart, because if you do this a second time, even with no altercations, you are going to be seriously fucked in the judicial system. Good luck.

Reap what you've sown. Sorry bud, but driving when you've been drinking is illegal. It does not matter how well you think you were doing vs your BAC, The Law says you crashed as a direct result of the booze. Ergo, the punishment is harsh to convince you and everyone else who ever said "I drive better when I've been drinking" to STFU and act like fucking mature responsible adults.

You're lucky that you didn't kill someone. Consider yourself lucky that's all that happened and will happen to you. You made the decision to drink and drive so now you have to live with the result of your decision. If you're not an idiot, you'll take something from this incident and never drink and drive again. Taking a taxi is a whole cheaper than what you're going to have to pay now.

If I'm reading things correctly, 80 days for a DUI AND leaving the scene of a crime isn't excessive at all.

This is very true, and will likely be the point of contention.

I also had the course and fines and went to AA for like a month(on my 2cd(1993)). Get a lawyer today!!!! The system wants to fuck you, a lawyer can be your chastity belt.

My mother, grandmother and I were almost killed by a drunk driver 20 years ago. Put my mom in the hospital, messed up my grandmother and fucked up my neck FOREVER.

Laws were not what they are today.
You were drunk. 80 days may be too light. Do your time and learn not to do it again.
I work at a hospital and see the results of car accidents ALL the time, when I see children and learn that they are here battling between life and death I want to run over the slush who did it, if he is still alive.

I agree with most people above. Do the time, and NEVER drink and drive again. What if it was a person instead of a road sign?

All I know is the downside (upside?) to having a bunch of friends who are cops is that I quickly learned I can drink way more than I would have thought and still be legal to drive. Or maybe that's just me. Breathalyzer races are fun.

Seriously tho, any more than a drink or two and you're asking for trouble. All the more reason to get hammered at home, where the guitars and xbox are anyway.

You should definately get a good lawyer tho. Even if he just shaves some time off your sentence it'd surely be worth the fees.

Get a lawyer. 80 days is a bit and I'd think you could have a lawyer get you out of doing time, it will cost you money but hey, at least you didnt kill anyone and your still around to talk about it.
