  • So, for real guys, who here is a Thrasher?

I just had a funny thought. I was listening to some Stormtroopers of Death (Fistbangin' Mania to be precise) and It came back to me how in high school, me and my group of friends were referred to as "thrashers", in the same sense that we referred to "jocks", "preppies", etc..

Then it occurred to me that, despite the lack of hair, looser pants, and beer belly, I guess I'm really still a thrasher.

I wasn't an outward metalhead in high school, so no names for me (except band geek, since I was in the band). I think my friends would call me a metalhead nowadays.

I was a "headbanger." I think that was a pretty popular term, nearly synonymous with "metalhead." But mostly I was a "dirtbag" which somehow morphed into "grunge." Dammit! Flannell was not just for alt-rockers!

I was Headbanger and Metalhead as well. Thrashers were those who flopped around on the ground like fish out of water or someone having a spaz attack. I think there was an Oingo Boingo video of some guy doing that backinnaday.

Thrasher was also heavily associated with skateboarding - and I gave up skateboarding when I was 11.

People usually called metalhead a "hairy" / "hairy one" (weird to translate) or sometimes a "heavie" when I grew up.
I was often called both when I was about 15, had long hair, wore biker jacket and listened to a lot of thrash metal. But I always considered myself more of an hippie-rocker (because I loved 60's music, prog and blues and promoted "free love" and "fuck authority") and mostly hanged out with punks, bikers, kids from the streets and gangstas. Never did get along with metalheads very well, they were too nerdy and quiet for me as I was more radical type of person and so were the headaches who I hanged out with. And at the time metalheads mostly listened to the kind of metal I couldn't care less about.. black, goth and other shit. I liked the classics.

im more of a muso, i listen to much too much diverse music to be called a thrasher. I used to have long hair but its pretty short now.

Yeah I was and still am although I don't look it anymore. I had the messy long hair, white Nike baseball boots, jeans, Sepultura/Metallica/Slayer/Anthrax shirts and black leather jacket.
Until I realised girls wouldn't touch me so changed my image and became the stud I am today.
