There is some ripping stuff on it, but the songs aren't really that great i don't really even particularily like one "song".

The last album had great songs and solid playing.

To me it seems like Dave wanted to take advantage of the resurgence of shred and guitar in general, and got the hottest shred meister he could find and put out a MegaShred album.

It definitely is that, and Dave keeps up with Chris quite well on it too imo,
he fucking shreds on it, I was impressed anyway.

I can see the critique on the album but it still works for me the riffs are rock solid and the hold my attention very well

I like it a lot, although I found the songs on TSHF to be a bit stronger. UA was pretty bad in my opinion.

I think I've figured out what I want from a Megadeth album after all these years, which explains why I've liked some albums so much and others so little. I got into Megadeth right around the release of CTE, just as I was starting to get serious about playing guitar myself. I was seriously impressed. Then I went back and started listening to previous albums, with RIP absolutely blowing me away. The problem was that nothing else impressed me to that degree, and as Megadeth (and many other mainstream metal bands) started putting out more accessible/less ambitious albums, I was finding out about all the European bands that I'd never heard before. Those were the bands putting out music that appealed to me.

Endgame did impress me quite a bit, mostly because Chris Broderick has the technical "zazz" that Pitrelli and Drover did not. The lyrics have a high cheese content, and some of the riffs are a bit stale, but overall it's the kind of album I wanted from Megadeth. Along with some of the high points on TSHF, it's the best I've heard from them since CTE.

Yeah, he shreds. He's changed his style, and he even changed his tone. He seems to be using the neck pickup more for his solos.
So, instead of having one shredder in the band, there's two.

            Where's the contrast?

And Broderick might be faster and more technical, but he can't play like Poland or Friedman.
I can only imagine what a Chris Broderick solo album would sound like:
            Shite.

I have to say that the biggest disappointment on the album was the art!! But I am slightly biased. Honestly think that they are cheasing out on the coverwork. I liked UA art. I think the music is good but borderlines musical masturbation.

I'm really starting to like Broderick, the album imho is better than several of the last. I didn't really like UA or TSHF as much as Peace sells - CTE, but after that the cheese was real thick <flame suit on>. I love Freidmans playing, but risk, youthanasia and cryptic writings, were all just kinda thrown together (again) imho.

Broderick is more of a conventional player than Freidman, but his chops are freakin' strong !

Dave was always a shredder in his own right, he may have added to his chops/style, but i don't think it's totally changed, still sounds like Dave just more technical here and there.

Chris is a monster, tho i've not really listened to his music much -
i don't know any of his work really, i couldn't tell you in a Nevermore song who is playing the solo.

But everything i've seen him play on you tube ect is outstanding.
He does Friedmans solos to a T - sounds great.

Chris will never match Marty's legendary status for the simple reason that he didn't play on RIP. The musicianship is fantastic, but RIP also had so many excellent songs, while so many Megadeth albums since then have been mixed at best.

I just hope that Dave keeps Chris around for another album or two, because they seem like a good match.

Chris isn't on a Nevermore album, just the live DVD.
