i am not a fan of avenged sevenfold but respect them hugely. When my best friends brother was diagnosed with a terminal brain tumour the guys from avenged sevenfold (who he was a huge fan of ) wrote him letters, phoned him and sent him a box of signed merchandise. To cap it off they invited all my friends family to meet them at the sonisphere festival. unfortunately Matthew died after fighting his cancer for a year and did not get to meet them, The Rev was a very talented drummer who inspired Matthew to learn the drums and brought joy into his short life.

I could see your point if the band hadn't bragged in all their interviews about the copious amounts of blow they do all the time while plowing their way through the world's groupies. It's a shame he died, but relating it to drugs is not really unfounded speculation. I mean, he may have died of something unrelated to that, but he freely admitted to doing boatloads of coke.

Don't be down on yourself about it, Tommy. It's natural to specualte this way, because as I said, A7X bragged to anyone who listened how they do lots of drugs. When City of Evil came out they were basically trying to be the Motley Crue of their time, and they were telling the tales to write their own The Dirt down the line.

It's not like I look down on someone or even feel it's insulting to speculate OD when (A) it's so common to the music biz, and (B) they own up to it themselves. It's funny, bands in the 80s mostly didn't cop to their drug use as much or as directly, because they didn't want Reagan or Bush I tossing their tourbuses looking for their stashes. But kids today....

And oh yeah: I don't look down on druggies because I've been one most of my life. Don't do it anymore, but I sure don't judge anybody behind it.

Let's be fair, AX7 band members have always acted like a bunch tools, they can brag about their drug use, I don't care, but at the same time they are telling not to use drugs at certain moments + a lot of other "moral" bullshit when it's beneficial for them. It's like government approved rock'n'roll at one point but they want to be rebels too to get some street cred. Not working. Instead they should work on how to not suck live, their heavily "computer assisted" recordings are not helping them.

Why couldn't it have been Synyster Gates?

His death would rob the world of the great treasure that is poking fun at his expense.

I firmly believe the internet is a major factor in the demise and ultimate extinction of mankind. It encourages and allows everyone to be judgemental, drama queen, attention whores. Sad really.... because real people still do exsist.

Just a thought I've been mulling over, not really a reaction to, but triggered by this thread.

Interesting thought, but all those attributes in humanity existed before the Internet did - it just wasn't as easy to find them.

If mankind extinguishes itself, it'll be because our culture and technology are now used to counter the process of natural selection - laudable in each individual case where you can save someone, but for the species as a whole, survival of the fittest is no longer the case, and this decline has been in place for a good century now.

But what are you going to do about it that would not in turn be barbaric? A real Catch-22....

Point well made. I was mostly refering to the altered image "me me me" state the internet creates. The effect on co-existence of our species that will alter the final outcome. But you are sadly right. We have fucked ourselves in too many ways to count.
