  • Whassup guys! New to the house here.

Stumbled on this site by accident. I was trying to find out which
Charvel I had that was collecting dust in the corner, it's an 86 I
think? I'll get to that later. I can see there's a ton of knowledge
here and a sh!tload of funmakers..

    A little about myself first...

I've played on and off in club bands since 77. Done a little studio
work and played my last live show in the fall of 2000. Yup, I'm an
old fukker that's got a few miles on my azz. Earliest influences to
name a few were, Clapton, Hendrix, Page, Gilmour, Santana, Beck
Brian May, Tony Iommi, Richie Blackmore, B.B. King. Later on it became guys like Rhoads, EVHalen, Kirk Hammet, Mike Stone, John Petrucci and
    Vitto Bratta.

Guitars I've played and owned in the past: 67 Fender Strat my first and
she got my cherry. Didn't sound right for the sound I was looking for but
I kept her for a long time tho. Got a Kramer G450 and man she'd bite your
head off. The problem was if it was cold outside it'd take a couple of hours
to get her to stay in tune once inside. Sold it and got a Les paul Standard
and kept her for 20+ yrs. Also, I'd found something that was truley sweet
but I hated putting her on my shoulder. She was fast! Built for speed and
was simply the best sounding, fastest guitar I'd ever played!! The Rhoads
Jackson, but seemed every time I'd move I'd knock something over with that danged whale fin!!
I'd put a hole in my Marshall, man was I pissed! I'd
knock over mike stands, and even tore a couple of the strings off the other
guitarists axe once. I sold her to a roadie...And then the soloist, I'd found
what I was looking for after Carvins, Hamers, Kramers, et al...

God what fun I'd had playing clubs and being in house bands, playing the circuit. Now I'm an old chubby sh!t at 52 thinking of days (years) past
rambleing my azz off on a frikin' computer! Welp, at least I've got my
memories, 2 amps and 2 guitars all collecting dust. I've managed to keep
an old Mesa, a Marshall, an Ovation Balladeer spl deluxe and a little 86 Charvel. Sumbeach!! The stories I could tell..I was once told by a dear
friend (Joe) that died in a car accident years ago that he could see me in a rocking chair and playing Crazy Train or Another thing comin' later in life.
It's later in life but he was right, there's still fire in the fingers. One last story......

Two years ago I was working in an electric panel where I work. A fella "now good friend" happened by and said Gawd Damb Man, how you gonna get all
those wires back where they belong. I looked at him and said, man those
are like guitar strings, once you learn where they go, they're easy. He said,
you a musician? I said, I used to be. He says, we got a little jam band and
we just get together to have some fun a few fridays a month, cook out and
have some beers wanna join us friday. I said, thanks man but I'm not looking for a band anymore, but I appreciate the offer tho. He came by constantly,
the more we talked music the more he hounded me to meet
his friends and play some. This went on for 6 months or better. Finally, one
day I stopped at a music store, picked up some new strings, re-stung my
little beast and joined them one night. After some Skynard, Brownsville
Station, Dylan, we found ourselves doing "Another thing comin'",,, the Sh!t
stops just after I do the lead, "which isn't hard" and says, Damb man! I like your sound!! We went on to Bad Company, Seeger, Great White and I
actually enjoyed the he11 outa myself!! Fat and 52 I've almost got the fever again......to beat it all they're all round my age!!!

Kewl site guys, thx to the moderators and all who keep it up. I'll get
around to the Charvell later. It was made some time when Grover/Wayne
    were making the Japan transition.....

Welcome. I really like the stories. I'm about 10 years less than you, but I never played in a band. Just a bedroom hack. A hobbyist.

Hey rat! Great intro! Keep on rockin'!

If your Charvel is from 1986, that is the first year of the Japanese Charvels, excellent guitars!

Logo should be guitar-shaped with by Jackson/Charvel underneath:

                      Bolt-ons are Models 1 - 4
                      Neckthroughs are Model 5-6

                      there's Model 7, 8 & basses too, but 1 - 6 are the most popular.

Yup Racer, just like my headstock. No made in the USA on it.
I've also done alot of reading on this and don't understand
something and maybe one of youse guys can edjimicate me.
After the transition to Japan the neckplates had the Ft Worth, TX
plate which was only a point of distribution for the hot little
Japanese models. My Rhoads had San Dimas and the soloist had
Ontario. The Charvels neckplate on mine says USA under TX and
it also has a small uh, I think it's called toothpaste logo Charvel
with the six digit S.N. Anyway, pics are comin' soon. Oh and one
more thing, do I need to use a web host ie photobucket er some-
                        thing to post pics??

                        Thx , rat
