If you feel like digging into this stuff at the waveform level (which is required if you start getting into analog or virtual analog synths), here's a great set of articles. Start at the bottom and work your way up.

    Sound on Sound Synth Secrets

This site is pretty indispensible when researching vintage synth gear:

        Funny stuff!

I know. They don't even try to hide it.

I'm lucky enough to have had theory drilled into my brain so reading sheet music is not a big deal. I just hate it when people write out the synth parts of songs on Guitar Pro and don't take advantage of 8va and 8vb. I don't want to count 9 ledger lines. I usually just fix it myself.

What do you guys use for amps? For now I just use my Sennheiser 280 Pros (They're beefy headphones I use for music too. The screw on 1/4 inch adaptor is pretty cool) but I've been thinking of getting an amp. For practice would something like decent computer speakers through the headphone jack via an adaptor (It has 1/4 inch jacks) suffice? I don't really want to drop a bunch of money on an amp yet. I would rather get a new guitar amp first.

At the moment, I'm running mine into my Line 6 UX2 Toneport, with no amp or cab model, so it's as uncoloured as I can get it. From there it goes into my powered monitors. I suppose I could go straight into the monitors, but I use them for my PC too, so it's easier running into the Toneport for now. I am buying another set of Alesis powered monitors that I'll be using just for the synth. They are 50 watts apiece, so they will be loud enough for now.

I'm currently converting my theater room into a music room. I'm running the keys through my theater power amp (3 x 325 Watts), and into my JBL LSR 32s (3 way pro passive speakers with 12" woofers).

The keys come out Left and Right. When I get my mixer, vocals will come out the center channel.

This chorus just won't get out of my head!!!! I started learning Subdivisions. It's not too hard but it sure is fun.

I'm also starting DT's "Learning to Live" and the number of different time signatures on the first page is just dumb. But it sounds really cool.

Subdivisions is a great primer on chords. It is pretty easy; only a few of the chord changes are a bit tricky. The synth solo is also good for building up your lead chops, but is easily attainable.

Any Rush is good for a beginner. Geddy wrote simple but effective keyboard parts.

Yeah that's what I figured. I played piano for a couple years but quit about 5 years ago. Chords aren't too much of a problem but I really need to work on my speed.
