  • Ok I have a question

I'm just curious, when the forum gets someone with like three posts max and two of those are "How much is my JS model worth?" why do people keep answering that? Not trying to piss anyone off by asking, just curious.

I know I'm going to come off as a dick for saying this. But I would say create a section like the Platinum users have with just a list of generic pricing and a how to to look up stuff like that on ebay and make them pay the platinum member price to see it instead of answering it in the forums. If they have no interest in this community beyond leeching price info and adding nothing to the forum, then make them pay for it.

Either that or make a minimum post limit before they are allowed to ask.

yeah yeah my panties are in a bind.

    lol

I understand where you're coming from to some extent, but it's really hard to tell early on who is a potential cool new member and who is going to turn out to be a flipper. Lots of people here started out as a guy asking what he just bought or is looking at and what's a good ballpark price. I think a good sticky at the top of each section, like the one Tekky did in import Charvels, plus maybe a rough bluebook with the most popular models, might help cut down on some of the questions. Making 'em pay right out of the gate would drive douchebags and cool people both away, imo. The minimum post thing sounds interesting, and I've seen it on some forums. Having people post a certain number of replies or at least an introduction before being able to start a thread might be a good idea.

Truthfully, I think it's pretty rad that the members here are cool enough to keep answering the same questions. Even though someone may be asking a already asked question, doesn't mean they know the already said answer. There's nothing more frustrating then going to a new forum and asking a question and everyone has a stick up there ass because they've answered it before.

      Annoying? Yeah, but whatever.

Well the "What model is this" threads I have no problem with, but it seems like we get a lot of people on here who ask what their guitar is worth and then we never hear from them again.

I agree with everything you said. My only thing with this is it's almost like skirting the pay to place adds thing. Because now when they ask you know they are going to be selling it in most cases and whats the difference between that and posting an actual add?

ah well, like i said my panties are just in a bind today. i'll have forgotten i even cared by tomorrow

I rarely do anymore. There are plenty of newer members who still have the enthusiasm to answer those kind of questions. I don't post nearly as much now though, preferring to reserve my posts for things like "dude! Sweet collection", "I'd hit if it had/didn't have a Floyd" & "What Tommy said..."

I can't do it because I dont' bother keeping up with the value of guitars. I did for a living for 12 yrs. and I'm done with that.

with quite a collection I might add.
Don't worry - I'll smack her if it comes to that. You do not sell guitars to buy shoes. You skimp on food to buy shoes! ~Mrs Tekky 06-03-08~

you forgot to ask us how much its worth and if a different color tolex will affect its tone.

I think it should be stopped. Some of us( one person mainly) loves to say that the value is higher than the going rates and has now caused the prices to go up. The charvel model series in particular. What we say here carries a lot of weight. The days of getting good prices is gone due to "how much is this worth". If someone wants to know what something is worth have them go look at what if sold for on ebay in the past so many days. Don't get me wrong, I don't what to screw anyone one out of what their guitars might really be worth, but I'm tried of seeing the guitars up on ebay for stupid prices right after we get the "what's my guitar worth".
