When I signed up here , you couldn't post a classified ad until a certain number of posts were achieved. Perhaps the same rule should be applied to noobs even mentioning the value of their own guitars (and that includes saying "I paid £xxx for it, did I get a good deal?"), until they have been here a while.
Personally, the value of my Jacksons was the last thing on my mind when I came here, I just wanted to find out the obscure details from some of those train-spotter geek fuckers that know about every single screw that was on certain issues, I wanted to show off my beauties (no, not them, I mean the guitars), and I wanted to join in the banter.
I found luuuurve too, of course. Well, sweaty humping with my Call Centre Bitch anyway. So I woke up,rolled over and who was lying next to me? Only Bonnie Langford!

I'm going to start being brutally honest with people asking for values and dole out such values as:
"Less than $100."
"Three words - Ebay, No, Reserve."
"Worthless."
"You'd have to pay me to take that pile of shit off your hands."-------------------------

Hey, a great future awaits you in a guitar shop!
My favourite was "Hmmmm, you can throw it in our bin if you like" whilst trying to look totally uninterested. It's an artform. So I woke up,rolled over and who was lying next to me? Only Bonnie Langford!

Problem we have here is a lack of consistency with pricing. I personally don't consider myself any sort of expert on pricing (or anything else for that matter), so I rarely respond with anything but my statement above.
If the JCF is the "gold standard" of pricing and identification, it does beg to wonder if we could all agree enough to come up with a "JCF Bluebook of Jackson/Charvel Models". I've thought about it quite a bit when I was working on "the project I shall never mention here again". It would comprise of each model with 3 separate values; Modified, Complete, and Stripped. Those values would be an average of whatever source(s) we can find that provide that information with +/- % value based upon condition. To expand it further we could also add a bluebook of parts.
Ahh, it's a pipe-dream, but if anything is to be learned from the "Limited Edition Guitars" section.... Nobody here can agree on sh**!!!Last edited by Tekky; 03-05-2010, 04:26 PM.Occupy JCF

And the fact that if there's a book price on a guitar, the chances of getting something for a song go down the shitter. There's no better feeling than giving someone £150 for a guitar (with which they are well pleased), knowing that someone else would gladly have given £1000 for it. Everyone's a winner, except the cunt who can afford to give £1000 willy nilly. (Fuck him!)
Once you start putting figures in black and white, all the flexibility goes out of buying used guitars. Cockmonkeys start latching onto prices they see and won't drop, there's no pointing out that their guitar isn't what is "valued" at loadsamoney.
Look at the way E-bay has fucked up buying guitars in pawn shops. They didn't used to care, they'd be happy doubling their money, and in view of the fact they usually give £50 for anything, you could get some bargains. Now, the first thing they do is get online and see what they are fetching on E-bay. Result - the guitar then sits in the shop for 12 months gathering dust. Everyone now thinks they are an expert.
It is worth what someone else will pay for it. You should buy it for as little as you can possibly get away with, and sell it for as much as you can get away with. If you are happy with what you paid/got, that's all you need to know.So I woke up,rolled over and who was lying next to me? Only Bonnie Langford!
