The new Challenger R/T is as heavy as my '69 Plymouth station wagon......seriously.

Congrats! I love those new Challengers despite the weight. I am not one of those guys that has to have the fastest anything out there. A friend at work is always sayng how my Mustang GT is slow compared to his Z06. Really? No shit? Who gives a rat's ass for real?

He'll eventually meet a guy with a Ferrari F430 or something and he'll swallow his words. Corvettes are nice cars, but they are in another bracket of money. For the moolah, mustangs and camaros are the best bang for the buck. With a bit of money, they rape Corvettes and have a different style. Also, i like have 2 extra seats. I drive my car, i don't just sit there and wash it. Problem with a corvette is the limited space, you can't go out with all 2 or 3 of your buds and then bang a chick in your corvette. If you do, you'll likely damage something. Back seats are useful, even when they are small like my mustangs.

By the way, show some pictures of your car bro

Not showing favoritism but they are truly impressive motors. Anytime you can get 365+ cfm from a stock ported casting SBC head..you know something evil is a brewing..

It's impressive that the mustang is only 0.1 secs away from the Challenger on the quarter mile. Weight or not, it's just not justifiable to have a 41 000$ (base price btw) barely capable of out running a 28 000$ (also base). That said, i think it's common knowledge now and people looking for speed and performance will mostly likely look else. Thing is, there's just a lot of things the others can't provide compared to the Challenger. These things just can't be compared. I am young, but i could just imagine being 45 years old and buying a new car modeled after the car i drove in my heyday, but with all sorts of modern conveniences. (I can't imagine it being that popular in 24 years, but heh theres also room for positive thinking :P)

P.S. why did you quote maximum crunch in there too, was he talking about speed or power? It sounds like you're trying to make fun of his wife. Just sayin man.. max might now find it funny.
OMG your a trip... The Challenger isnt aimed at 20 something year olds or teeny bopper girls as the GT is. The market is targeted at a more mature group of people, not one that needs to prove my shit is faster then yours. You talk about the car like it is a slug and a POS and that its not worth owning and isnt worth the money, its a nice a car that will get you from point A to B (isnt that REALLY why we all own cars anyway?) in a comfortable ride a unique one and pretty quickly if you so desire.

BTW dd3keegs nice ride!! I like the Plum crazy purple ones tha came out this year

No they don't. People ,who buy muscle cars, and don't remorgage their house for it and end up driving JUST that (just saying my buddies are picking up a lot of point A to point B cars in the states right now),usually drive them as secondary cars. To get you to point Z, something a Toyota Yaris can't provide. The feeling you get from storming down the highway in low gear with the engine bursting in a sort of thunderous applaud is an amazing feeling or freedom and power to a gearhead. Sure some people drive Corvettes to the groceries, but they are either girls or old rich folks. A gun is meant to kill whether it does or not, a match is meant to start a fire whether they are used for that or not and a muscle car is designed to go fast and have balls whether the owner is a dipshit or not. I am not calling them crappy cars, but trust me when you're effing spending 40-50 thousand fucking dollars for a car, you want it to keep up with the friggin subaru STIs out there and the shitty Si's and what not. Nothing wrong with the car, but everyone can agree that it would've been nice if it were faster. If you like it slow, than you obviously should hang up your keys and buy a moped cause if it's all about getting from point A to point b....

Ok old muscle cars yes as a secondary ride, a new Challenger is more of the DD variety. Now you are comparing too many cars here fender you throw in a Vette which is a pussy car or a midlife crisis car where as the Challenger isnt. It is a piece of American history of a by-gone era brought back in a modern age, most muscle cars didnt live at the strip they lived on the street and they were driven to work and cruised on the weekends.

I have owned a 56 Ford f-100 that I threw a L88 out of a wrecked Vette into, a 1969 Hurst/Olds w/a 455 that I hooked up a M22 Rockcrusher to instead of the automatic and other perf. mods. BTW it was a daily driver for years and made many trips across the country. So I do know a wee little bit about hot rods and muscle cars. I now drive an Escalade and I bought it new and spent a pretty penny on it and it may not be the quickest thing around but once that mass of ass gets moving and that big ass V8 opens up, not only can and will catch anything but I will run them over in the process all while enjoying my nice comfy ride and heated leather seats.

Back to the point, what you may see is a waste of money cause you dont get shit loads of hp and tq straight out of the box I see as a nice ride and a nice platform to be able to milk more power out of and a chance to own a unique car with modern creature comforts and old school style that cars today lack.

I understand. I didn't say it was worth nothing, but couldn't you can agree that it should have better numbers than it's putting out. Weight aside, it's having a hard time putting that power down. That's what we call bad engineering. I haven't driven one long enough to tell, but the guys who mod or will mod them will pick up on that that stuff pretty fast. Maybe theres not enough support in the back and would need stiffer control arms and bushings, or maybe the springs in the back don't react well to lift off torque. A lot of stuff. It's when you get into modding, which i assume you have, that you notice how much the little things can improve a car overall without taking away from the original spirit. Things like coil springs, sub frame connectors, gears , upper and lower control arms etc, are all necessary parts of the car. My car is regarded as slow in stock value in comparison to the F-bodies of that time. Yet, after changed my springs, beefed my rear tires a bit (275/45/17) and add some nice tubular stiff control arms with sweet urethane bushings, i gained at least 0.3 to half a second on my quarter without touching engine, transmission, differential or pcu. You already know this , i assume, so we can agree that for the price it costs to have an SRT8 Challenger, it should do significantly more than that. Doesn't have to be the best, but it's gotta be worth the though. Nothing says i hate my life like trying to show your wife that your 50 grand car has some kick and getting your ass handed to you by a mustang with 4000 of mods. You don't have to agree and i can have my opinion.

I had a 70 Challenger back in the day.Red with a black vinyl top and a 440/727 auto 3:55 gears.
Traded it for a 70 Cuda with a dead 426 Hemi (broken crankshaft and 2 connecting rods)
Same color, the Cuda had a 4-speed and Dana 60 rear with 4:56 gears.
I have had lots of cool old Mopars over the years.
I test drove a 6.1 Hemi (09) and did like it a lot.Funny it doesn't come with a spare tire just an air pump WTF?
                      Really? well screw Mark Twain.

Effing sweet. I love how you have a sort of pony package looking grill, but with the better looking big fogs. Sweet effing shaker hood scoop there!

                          Thanks for the pics!

Thank you. I made that piece for the grill out of the chrome trim from a pony package grill. I cut it down and fit it on. Took some doing but was worth the effort.

The shaker was home installed too. Putting a jig saw to the hood of a new car made me a little nervous, but once the pilot hole was drilled, there was no turning back.

its effin ridiculous, big block head flow numbers from a stock ported small block cylinder head, chevy got it right with this one, reliable pushrod motor, good bottom end, high flowin heads, roller cam

nothin against the new hemi or fords modular engines, but chevy kept these things very simple, reliable

                              and sorry im kinda high,forgot

                              NICE CHALLENGER!!!!!

I bought my dad the same trunk deck honeycomb cover. I have one on my car kind of like the 35th Anniversary special editions or the Mach1's of later years, but it looks so appropriate on the S197's. Also i have to say, i don't if it's because they're not legal or just not popular here, but i really dig those rear window louvers man. I know it always seems to be more of an old 80's Camaro and Firebird thing, but it looks right on your car. Good job again man!
