Its funny how anything Ford or Chrysler does is unfair. Blower, 2 extra cylinders, whatever. Bottom line is however you want to look at it the current bar is set by the Shelby as far as Ponycars go. Are there 900+ hp LS cars out on the streets? Sure there are but again, thats not the norm. The only places I see such cars is at the NMCA Finals each year where the LSX Shootout is held. Thats where you will see the baddest LS powered cars. But those are not the cars I see on most streets or local drag strips. OTOH, I have seen 4.6L blown Cobras with better than 600+ rwhp and thats not even the Shelby 5.4L. Changing heads and cam on an LS motor is basically redoing the top half of your motor. Those heads have a GM part number and are sold through GM but they are not factory stock. In the meantime like I said before the guy with the Shelby hasn't cracked anything open on his motor yet. Simply swap a pulley, better exhaust and a tune and you're ready to burn rubber. $6500 for your Procharger is just the begining. Anytime you start bolting these things on you quickly find out how much more you need to spend in beefing up lots of other parts. Went through that with my own Mustang by "bolting on" a Vortech blower. Ford did their homework on the Shelby but the GM guys never want to admit it.
BTW, as a historical point the side oiler 427 is not necessarily the Cammer. Depending on what year Cobra you get you may have a side oiler or a center oiler. These have nothing to do with whether its a Cammer or not. The 427 SOHC motor was known as the Cammer and was not factory installed in the 60's Ford Musclecars. It was originally intended to be Ford's answer to the Chrysler 426 Hemi for NASCAR use. NASCAR said no to both of them so Ford used the motor for all sorts of motorsports, mainly drag racing, by selling the motor over the counter. The side vs. center oiler has to do with the way the oiling system is routed. To confuse the GM guys even more there are 427 low, medium, and high risers which has to do with the heads
In the end, drive/race what you want. Just don't be so quick to discount the competition
incase you have missed it, two of the most popular LS cylinder heads are FACTORY, and yes i MEAN FACTORY 5.3 or 6.0 truck heads that have been cnc'd and worked by a competent machinist

i know all about the diff. deck height which also has to do the cam placement as well, 427 blocks

and im sure the new LS3 comes with forged internals that are very strong, the exception being, im not sure, but it may use hyp. pistons, chevy does this to reduce cold start "piston" slap, but a new set of pistons for an LS3 is pretty reasonable, ARP bolts in the rods and you have a reliable 700hp bottom end

you seem to know your stuff, im not too much on the ford thing, thanks for the side oiler center oiler info

and to tell you the truth, yes the gt500 is impressive and a fast car, but i think its an overpriced 03-04 cobra in a different skin

speakin of there is a local "terminator" that runs race gas, and has a VERY large single turbo conversion that puts down HUGE dyno numbers, but last i heard of it guys with heads and cam LS1's were killing it all day all long in quarter mile cause it cant put the power down

can make all the power in the world and still get outrun if it wont hook, this goes for ANY manufacturer

and the vette is only $3,000 more at msrp, but how many vettes are selling for below MSRP, and how many people are paying a ridiculous amount of money to get the gt500's, i bet there selling for over MSRP caus there the "new thing"

    its apples to orange's really

have enjoyed the argument, ahem, "DEBATE"

and rudy? how excited are you over the return of the 5.0 in a dohc?

btw, hats off to ford and chevy for making a cheap 300hp V6 model of both the camaro and mustang now

"pony" cars are supposed to represent a poor mans performance car IMO, and $45,000 for a mustang is kinda high, and i would say the same thing about a $45,000 camaro

Did anybody mention the 2011 Mustang GT yet?

It is putting up fantastic numbers...

Actually you should check out Motortrend, they had an issue where they compared the 09 gt500 (before the re-style) to a c6 Z06 and it kept up. Let's just say it gave the C6 a run for its money as a heavy car.

Here it is being a fraction of a second faster than a C6 Z06. I think it's mostly stock with the exception of a tune and he upped the psi on his supercharger.

and when i refer the the LSX, im refering to the entire LS engine series, as the X represents a rpo code number, remember in math, X is a variable
Thank you professor dumbass. Being involved in this conversation has made us complete retards. Why if you weren't there I would've thought it meant ''X-ray''. :ROTF:

infact id like to see a GT40 vs. ZR1 comparson, but i alread know who would win that one
        http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CzjPnMj3fKk

Bet you almost thought the Zr1 would win? Keep in mind they are both fully tuned by the same performance shop in Germany. Geiger, being a pretty big name for modding in Europe. Also i guess this is just as unfair as putting the Vette against a Mustang. The Ford GT is a real supercar and with a big sticker price in the area of 139 999 and +.

BTW Gmbob your last post is a lot better, looks like you calmed down. I could never sit there and say Ford is better. None of them are better, just different. However, they are all American companies which, by some act of god, are still producing cars after their dark ages (that we can just refer to as the 80's and 90's), and they have varied products to please everyone.

I ,personally, would take a Corvette before a Gt500. I'd love a two seater and the GT500 is awesome, but just too expensive for a Mustang. On the other hand, it's a lot more exclusive in my opinion. The fact that Shelby's have recommenced production a couple of years ago is another gift from God. Not only do you get a car designed by the same man ,who made history in the 60's, but you get the pedigree and class that comes with owning such a beautiful car.

I mean look at this monster!

Racer...dude. Give me a break man, it was about 1:00 am when i wrote this. I'd like to think I've got a pretty good average when it comes to spelling mistakes. Also, I'm not about to spend 30 minutes proof-reading my posts on every occasion. Don't worry though. You'll err soon enough as well.
