  • The Saints have done it again!

Every time they take the field, they literally change the game.

New overtime rules put into effect to give the loser a chance to meet or beat.

damnit!!! they almost got it right, it should be whoever scores a touchdown first wins the game, period. i mean, why even have a clock run at all the way it was?
clock management in the playoffs is nonexistent. too much like college now.
TD wins the game period, that's where I stand.

I think that's a better solution. No field goals. Your possesion ends on punt or touchdown. It would force kickers to work on their short punt game too.

Damn thats stupid, keep it like it was who ever scores first wins. If your not good enough to stop them you shoudnt be given a chance to win.

It's so lame that they came up with this as a kneejerk reaction to Favre not getting to touch the ball in OT, when he's the one who had the ball in FG range at the end of regulation and threw the idiotic interception. It's also pretty funny that the Saints voted for the new rule & the Vikes voted against it.

But why take kicking game out of the equation? it is an important part of the game (ask Scott Norwood). If you want to have the winner have to earn it then do away with the sudden death bs and play an extra half of quarter and keep playing them if the score is tied after the extra time, there problem solved.

Let me be the first one to suggest, OT wins should be nased on a touchdown.

If you're not going to make it sudden death, make them play a whole extra quarter. Of course it could go the way of baseball, with how many extra quarters to break a tie? But if you're gonna do it, make it a full period.

Problem with only a touchdown winning in sudden death is that it narrows the scope of the game. You know the team with the ball is not gonna angle to get in field goal range because a FG does no good. So you know what they ARE gonna do within a narrower range.

Either keep it as it is, or make 'em play a whole quarter - or at least a predetermined period. Make it 8 minutes if you don't want to drag it out into 15-minute quarters. Either way the other team gets a chance to retaliate.

15 minutes, no time-outs. Clock runs until the end of the game.

The idea that it should end only on a TD is merely feeding the old-skool imagery of a QB throwing a nail-biter Hail Mary and the receiver making a miracle catch, and/or the imagery of a running back breaking tackles in a dramatic fashion and doing a Heisman pose over the goal line.

First team to score wins, or do 15 minutes of non-stop action. Everything takes time off the clock. Can't call a TO to cool anyone off (your side or their side). If you haven't got your play-calling down by then, fuck you, loser.

Then again, if you can't keep them out of FG range as it is now, fuck you, loser.

                      wrong. are you o.k.?
what scoring a touchdown does is eliminate a long hard fought game determined by a coin toss, and just a merely decent run back to the 35, god forbid any more than that. a few first downs and a guy comes in and kicks the winner and it's over.
in a dome, 50 plus yard field goals make the field even shorter.
let's see 'em slug it out. holding a team out of the end zone is a lot easier than preventing a field goal. just what i would rather see. or , i'll go for the clock to be relevant for 15 minutes, or however long it takes.
i'm not bagging on the saints, i'm happy they won. look at the cardinals-packers wild card game. that was the best game of the whole NFL playoffs. how did it end? on a touchdown by the defense.

They should have landmines that randomly activate throughout the OT period. The longer it lasts, the more landmines activate. They deactivate when a TD is scored.

Now THAT would bring a level of excitement!

Oh and then maybe...just MAYBE these overpaid schmucks would actually EARN their paychecks.
