  • What's your work horse guitar of choice?

OK, several of us on here, if not most of us, have more that one guitar. Also some of us have really nice guitars, beater guitars, guitars from different manufacturers, guitars of unknown origins, custom shop guitars, etc. Here's the question though, of all the guitars you have which one is the work horse? I mean your grab and go, have to have it with you everytime you gig, old pair of shoes, worn out jeans comfortable guitar? When posting, name some of your other guitars to let us know what you're picking from just to make it more interesting.

My choices are a 1986 San Dimas Jackson, 2005 Charvel SD reissue, Pro Mod Charvel So Cal, minty Charvel model 6, old ESP strat, old Washburn V and two Music Man John Petrucci guitars. Now most of these were my number 1 at some point of time but the one I just can't leave the house without and the one I keep in the stand and pick up the most is........ My Pagan Gold Charvel So Cal. I absolutely LOVE that guitar! It just fits! If I only need to take one guitar then it's the one that goes.

At this point, I would have to say it's this one. The pickups are pretty versatile (Dimarzio 36th Anniversary PAFs) and it feels great.

For me it's between a few. If I am traveling. I take my PC1. It's just rock solid, looks and sounds good. Thankfully I am not traveling as much as I used to. For rehearsals lately I have been relying on EVH Art Series Charvel. I need the drop-d for some songs and it the guitar has a great tone and feel. For gigs I always take my Wife Beater. Its a Star mutt, Charvel pointy neck and string thru bridge. I keep it for drop-d songs but if I have any issues with my other guitar, which always has a floyd, I just grab the wife beater. Hopefully I remember to re-tune it for the song that we are playing. I have not done that on occasion. That first chord sounds awful.

I just remembered, the PC1 was with me at the last gig as well.

Mine is my mid 2000's transparent black USA SL2H. I play it more than everything else put together. I even risk it at shows. I have a few others but they're all special purpose or backup guitars.

            Here's some of the others:
            2007 USA SL1 (black)
            1991 USA SL1 (sunset)
1993 Pro Series Soloist (sl1 config, metallic black)
1993 Pro Series Kelly (black cherry) tuned to C
2007 DK2M (red) - use for midi pickup
Newly arrived DK27 (metallic blue) - tuned to B
2 SLSMG's (black) tuned to drop D and drop C
            7 string ESP
            Variax 600
I only need one more guitar.

              This one:

I've had it the longest, it was the first one I assembled, and it's a great playing and sounding guitar.

I have some USA Jacksons and Charvels and some other Warmoth builds but this is my go-to guitar, the one that never gets put away.

My 86 Model 3. I did a refret on it and added a Kahler 2710.
The saddles are adjusted to nearly a 20" radius, and the action and feel are dead on.
Not the best sounding axe I have but definitely a great player.

For daily non-trem practice, an 89 Basswood body Charvette 150.
Setup is very close to the Model 3.
If it gets bumped or banged, no prob. Beater.

I have nicer, more expensive axes that get saved for special use.
So these two get the most wear.

My best sounding Metal axe, is by far, an 84 Carvin V220.

The prudes may snub them, but I don't care.
                I dont need furniture.
If its tough, shreds, and screams, Its all good.
If it gets jacked, I'll get another one.
                And rock that sucker.

Is this an original SD or a reissue?
