  • Where can I find top selling guitars list?

I'm doing a project for my small business class and as part of the research, I need to find something that gives me sort of a breakdown (E.G. Fender 25%, Gibson 25%, PRS 3%, etc)of guitar sales in 2009. Data going further back would be even more helpful. I have searched high and low, and I am just not finding this information. I could make it up, but I need to cite it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I can't believe how difficult it is to find this information.

Have you tried contacting some big music stores, speaking to the managers and asking about sales figures?

What I would do is, go with every snobbish persons opinionated answer to this and flip a coin to see if Fender or Gibson gets the #1 spot. After that is sorted out, do it truthfully by polling the board here over Jackson vs. Charvel popularity for 3 and 4 and then write down the names of as many other brands that you can think of, put them in a hat and put them on the list by order out of the hat. Your teacher will see Fender and Gibson at the top and because of the over rated mass commercialism that has been force fed to us regarding these companies through product placement(dare you to find 5 movies and/or TV shows/commercials about music where all the props werent supplied by Marshall, Fender and Gibson) and he/she wont even look further down the list because those names are so engrained in his/her head that Ill bet he/she isnt even aware that there are any other manufacturers of musical instruments in the world, thus, solidifying your A that you will recieve to pass the project.

Id really love to see some good product placement in the TV industry. Im not knockin Fender, Gibson or Marshall, but for Christs sake, there are other musical instrument manufacturers in the world that would just love to sell a piece cause some 10 year old saw that brand in a Hollywood movie starring Jack Black so thats all they need to be cool.

I'm sure the manufacturers maintain this type of information...I don't know how responsive they'll be, but try contacting one/some of them. Try contacting Bionic to see if he can maybe get some of that info for you.

              heres some more helpful info

Its just a top 10 as they want money for the whole 125 list but may lend some insight.

I can work with this. Thank you very much!!

6String40: The project is due Monday, and I actually thought I would be able to find all the numbers easily online. Lesson learned going forward though, lol.

Most manufacturers don't reveal actual numbers to the general public. JCMI has stated previously they don't when the question came up about how many of a certain model sold each year.

Retailers probably won't give any info unless you're their accountant or an IRS agent, even for research purposes, as they do their own internal research.

One would think that something like that would be available online...at least to some extent. Good luck!
