My wireless router stopped wirelessing

Just the other day my wireless - a linksys 2.4 - decided to stop transmitting a wireless signal. The computer directly connected to it works fine.

I tried a factory reset and its still not transmitting.

Any ideas before I buy a new one?

Ah, seriously if you did the factory reset and your PC can't see a WAP in the nearby vicinity then it sounds to me like a hardware issue.

It's possible that the wireless is provided via a daughter-board add-on to the regular router though - might have just come loose or lost contact.

You might open it up and poke around if you have any idea what you are doing - or even if you just want to see what's in there, because, it's not doing you any good like that.

I'd contact Linksys, but if you did a factory reset properly and then went into the setup and made sure wireless was on, then it's probably dead. The wireless and wired functions are usually kept pretty separate inside, so it wouldn't surprise me if the wired still worked perfectly.

Hey, that is a good point... Maybe in the interest of making the product less retardedly insecure out of the box, they have the wireless radio disabled by default now?

Call their tech support. Linksys has an 800 number--maybe they can get it working.

Yeah but it was working for years then just stopped the other day. Factory reset didn't fix it.

Get a new one. If you've had it for "years", the techs at LinkSys will tell you the same thing.

I prefer DLink routers myself.

I had the same thing happen to mine...had to replace it. The unit was probably 5-6 years old at the time

Your NIC will have to support "N" in order for that to work. Most Computers in the last couple years do but any older than that its a crap shoot. You may want to consult your wireless NICs manufacturers site to see what it supports. If the router part of it still works then just purchase a new access point for about 1/2 what a new router/access point would cost. You just plug the new access point into the router like you would a computer and youre good to go. Also, it says its "draft" N which means it may not be compliant with an N NIC now that N has been certified.
