I ship about 50-70 guitars a year and DHL "used" to be the worst but since they are out of the picture.........UPS gets #1 for the whole USA except California where FedEx seems to bust everything known to man.FedEx is pretty damned good about claims but UPS blows moose juice!they do everything but blame it on FedEx.USPS has with me a spotless record oddly.....I have shipped to some remote places and so far so good.No matter what,I NEVER ship during the month of December......just out of common sense lol.
Sorry about the damage and the bs your about to go through.

Okay ill flipside this....Fed Ex has been A1 for me never lost or damaged a thing.....UPS destrofucked a very rare kramer i snagged....And the fuckin USPS....Hmm lets see they managed to fold a 5" pvc tube in half crushing 5k in fishing rods, they LOST a model 2 of mine for 5 months and refused to pay and then the fucker magically showed up AFTER christmas, they mangled a Dk2 Skulls, they took the headstock off both that one and a Kramer Sustainer I sent. Both those were in hard cases with strings removed packed so that chunk from the fuckin goonies could have truffled shuffled his fat ass off a 2 story building riding the fuckin packages. Then we can talk about their claims process...
In closing im creating some genetically enhances carrier pigeons.Haters gonna hate
Dilluting the brand one MUTT at a time.

If I can I would rather ship with the neck and body apart. It tends to grant much more stability and you can wrap without the available pressure points. There will always be a risk with a pointy tilt headstock. Its just the nature of it. But its a hell of a lot easier to over package and not create pressure points when the 2 are separate.Haters gonna hate

I ordered a Dominion from Wild West Guitars a few years back. They shipped it just in a box with some bubble wrap. UPS managed to take out a big ass chunk of wood in the neck, as well as some other dings on the fretboard. Since then I've had a CS Soloist come just fine, as well as shipping out a couple guitars just fine. I wouldn't say they're terrible, but for the most part, Fuck UPS.

UPS also did damage to a guitar I bought. Fortunately, they admitted that the damage was their fault in the end, but it took a while.
They also once managed to deliver a +$200k computer upside down to my work (this side up being clearly marked) and dropping and damaging it in the process too.

wow... i had a guitar that was packed with almost a foot of wrap on ends in an oversized box in a case and guitar was bubblewrapped in case too... had the same thing happen. it took a long time and several denied claims but they ended up eventually allowing the claim. i had pics of everything before it shipped and after. the box looked like it fell from 30 ft on one end.... they said it was insufficient packing but eventually they owned up to it. took months... dont say ok when they deny the claim. they will also allow repair claims to go through much quicker then full replacement. going to have to get estimates in writing and fax it over a million times... has to be on repair shop letterhead with phone and fax numbers, addy, signed by repair guy etc... a real hassle. they will tell u they never got the repair estimate and lots of bullsihit... also if you did not use ups directly then they will go through whomever you shipped it through (like staples) and then they will deny the claim stating that they are not the insurance company you need to go through and that wnomever you dropped the package off to to have it shipped is... just be patient... dont take no for an answer. you will make 100 phone calls and faxes... eventually it will be cheaper for them to handle your claim as there fault then to pay someone to talk to you.Last edited by Firebird V; 06-20-2010, 08:35 AM.

OK so waiting for them not to pay or just give me some money to fix or replace the neck I bought one on ebay for $140. Mind you it's only a DXMG neck but I like the profile better(and sharkfins as opposed to Piranahas).
I talk to staples today and UPS is sending out the paper work to pay for the whole thing! Now I have a neck coming and no guitar to put it on.:ROTF:

Id hate to say this but you almost have to have an out of my control no implied garentee of safe shipment. Pack it, take pics of it packed, ask the buyer if this looks to be packed to their satisfaction and if they agree, ship it under the pretense that you did what you could and hope for the best with no implied garentee.Last edited by Twitch; 06-21-2010, 04:04 PM.HTTP 404 - Signature Not Found

You really just cant win, its a gamble no matter what. Not to mention whether the guy knows how to put it back together or not and how much he may have to spend to get it re-assembled.
I doubt ebay would allow a sale with no liability for the shipper.

I hate UPS. The last thing I shipped with them was six years ago when I shipped a gaming PC I sent to my son. By the time it got to him it was completely destroyed.
When I ordered my KE2 it was sent via UPS. The asshole was supposed to get my signature but instead he left it lying flat on the concrete in front of my apartment door in a busy neighborhood on a day that IT WAS RAINING!!! There it sat for about 3 hours until I got home from work. I couldn't believe it was still there, and that water hadn't soaked through to the case. Makes my stomach knot just remembering that day. Talk about bittersweet!
I will never, ever ship via UPS and I never select them as an option for shipping to me if I can avoid it.
