When I ordered my KE2 it was sent via UPS. The asshole was supposed to get my signature but instead he left it lying flat on the concrete in front of my apartment door in a busy neighborhood on a day that IT WAS RAINING!!! There it sat for about 3 hours until I got home from work. I couldn't believe it was still there, and that water hadn't soaked through to the case. Makes my stomach knot just remembering that day. Talk about bittersweet!

I will never, ever ship via UPS and I never select them as an option for shipping to me if I can avoid it.
A few years ago UPS put a $900 guitar in a puddle in the rain in the trash by my back gate. Nice huh

Being someone who works in a shipping hub, on a major axis point for the entire southeast. I see my fair share of guitars come through(on a daily basis), the nature of the beast ~ shipping. The business model is to move as many 'packages' as fast as possible, after all ..... You guys want your guitars as quick as a microwave makes popcorn.

I regularly go out of my way to protect any and all guitars whenever an incident involves me, the other day I had to tell some co-workers "don't step on this or this or that". We were breaking a jam on one of the special handling belts, because our 'facer staff' had reported that there was nothing wrong. A huge clusterfuck ensued leading to several hundred packages getting jammed. There were Gretches, Fenders and Gibsons in factory boxes all over the place!

Shipping can lead to head aches, I know for sure ~ I oversee around 250,000 packages a day. Just pack it well, buy insurance(I know it sucks) and hope for the best. I've bought and sold guitars without any problems many times through many shippers, there's always a horror story you do hear about .... So plan ahead, or just meet up if possible for an exchange.

      Cheers

Are UPS and USPS somehow related? They must be - Because everytime I have a guitar shipped via USPS, it takes nearly 3 weeks and they always damage the guitar or the case, or both. Same level of packaging, yet not even a scratch on the case when Fedex deliver it, and it only takes them 5 days including a weekend.

UPS is a public company and USPS is the United States Postal Service-government run. Items shipped USPS don't get delivered by usps in other countries.

My experience is that UPS has broken 3 guitars so far, so I won't use them ever again. Used to use Fedex, but US Postal Service is by far the safest and most reliable shipper I've used. WAYYYY cheaper for International shipping than any other one.

Most shippers, be it Ups, USPS or Fedex ~ have an agreement and will inter company ship when necessary policy. Fedex handles quite a bit of USPS on a daily basis and the occasional Ups as well. A common practice but not well known outside of the industry.

I've been waiting all day for my guitar! Its been showing 'OUT FOR DELIVERY' time-stamped 4:06 AM. Its already 8:35 PM! How late are they going to deliver? The max they've delivered so far was 6 PM. God they're testing my patience!!

So, looks like either UPS really lost the package or some UPS driver decided to keep the big package for themself. The seller has started a trace of the package. As far as I know the tracing never helps. The package is lost. Or Has UPS ever successfully retrieved a lost package?

I opened a paypal dispute & the seller's paypal account is supposedly frozen. he's asking me to close the dispute because its not his fault. if I close it now, will i be able to open another for the same item? I dont want him to take the chance to transfer all the money to an account paypal cant touch. I did pay through credit card, so I'm guessing its safe, but if someone can confirm...

Let the seller cry about it they are the one that will get an insurance payout anyway.

IMO closing the dispute takes any pressure off of the seller to have UPS resolve this. If you don't take delivery the dispute stays open until you are refunded.

Thanks guys. I wont close it. The seller was very quick to send more pics upon request before sale. immediately after sale, I paid up...like within 15 mins or so. And within the next hour, he sends me a tracking number. I have never come across someone who sent a guitar that quickly. However, when I contacted him saying UPS did not deliver it, I did not hear back from up until I opened the paypal dispute 3 days later.

Visa and Mastercard allow chargebacks up to 6 months with very little hassle. However, all chargebacks are subject to the bank the card was issued. I have read where a credit card chargeback was not allowed because a dispute was already filed directly with Paypal. I have also had a chargeback from a purchase over 2 years later. Yes, 2 years later. I won it, but it still made it through the system.

On the other end of it, UPS has 7 days to find the package once a trace has been initiated or the inurance will be paid. Odds are the trace will find the missing guitar.

Hey, Thanks man. The card is Citibank Mastercard. I hope UPS find the guitar. Its a neck-through Carvin with Stainless steel frets. Sweet baby! However, the seller did not get insurance I believe.
