Testament rocked. Chuck thought he was in Oklahoma, not Kansas. So we all got to say "Fuck You Chuck." Caught a flying kungfu kick to the kneecap participating in the "Wall of Death." Then caught a Skolnick pick. Wished their set was longer. Skolnick was flashy, but I couldn't help pay more attention to Peterson's playing. Chuck Billy has a monster voice. My buddies really didn't know Testament, but came away impressed by their set.
Megadeth rocked. Dave's voice sounded a little weak in the middle of the set, but got better again towards the end. Broderick nailed Marty's solos and got really close to Poland's on Peace Sells. I was confused that they opened with Holy Wars... the Punishment Due, then closed the show by playing the end of that song again? Dave has definitely mellowed with age. Last time he offered to kick everyone in the audience's ass. This time he offered us the blessings of his deity. Thanks Dave.
Slayer... rocked... but.... My god, Hanneman sounded shrill and obnoxious. I mean Slayer is known for shrill and obnoxious solos, but this was painful. I'd always assumed Hanneman to be the more skilled of the two, but King's parts sounded a lot more controlled and precise - maybe partly because he wasn't quite as loud. Still badass tho, Lombardo & Araya were spot on. They started with a couple of forgettable new songs followed by the entirety of Seasons in the Abyss plus South of Heaven, Raining Blood and Angel of Death. There was an older song towards the end too... Aggressive Perfector maybe?
All-together a great show at an okay venue,
