  • Need confirmation on tabs - SOD & Motorhead songs

Hey guys, need quick help. I am participating in the annual Metal Jam, a "jam" concert for charity (Autism). I need to learn 2 songs quickly: S.O.D. - March of the SOD and Motorhead - Killed By Death.

To illustrate how much of a procrastinator I am, the rehearsal concert is this Sunday night and the actual concert is Saturday September 4 in Long Beach, CA.

Let's concentrate on the SOD song first, it's pretty simple but there are at least 3 different tab versions floating around on them thar innerwebs

It's in drop D, right? I've never played that, but it sure looks easy, just doin' the 1 finger barre....this tab http://www.911tabs.com/link/?307962 seems IMO to be the most accurate (if incomplete). What say you, S.O.D. experts?

Re the Motorhead tune, I actually want to do at least 1 of the 3 solos At least the first one. A few weeks ago I vaguely searched for tabs on the 1st solo, I think it starts 17-20-17-20 or something like that. Here's the ultra cheesy vid:

Song starts at :20 if you want to FF, 1st solo starts at :34 and lasts only 15 seconds - which is why I think I can tackle it

SOD: seems like a reasonable facsimile to me... It's a very complicated song...
Hardware: all black, all the time.

Had rehearsal last night - very disorganized - but cool to see all the local metal musicians I hadn't seen in years. I didn't play the above songs - but I was asked to volunteer guitar on Iron Maiden - Flight of the Icarus....since I hadn't played that in years, my good buddy Lance (guitarist in Hirax! Also uses Jacksons exclusively) helped describe the chords & arrangement, which I wrote down on scratch paper and studied for 15 minutes. When it was my turn, I got up on stage with my cheat sheet and newly acquired Charvel Pro Mod and rocked it! This was filmed, but in all the chaos, the dude just said, "I'm gonna put it on Facebook, search under my name Jeff King" Well of course when I got home there are about 500 Jeff Kings and I don't know enough about searching Facebook to find that guy...the actual event is Saturday Sept 4th check out http://www.metaljam.org/ and if you're gonna be in the Long Beach area that day, stop in and yell at me! Free admission but donations accepted for the organization Autism Speaks.

Thanks, Gary! That is it. If you go to his wall, you'll see a bunch of videos from the rehearsal. Here's me doing Flight of the Icarus

Thanks, bro! You know, I don't even know what the amps were! I'll have to look next Saturday! I do know the one I was on had a blue mute button on it so you can tune up (I think the tuner lights were blue also). Only screwed up thing is the guy who was helping us at the amps took off and left the mute *on* right before the tune started. That is a fucked up feeling, the rest of the band is going great, and I'm standing there like a doofus! Well, more so than normal.

And that's like the 3rd time that's happened!

Chris's rig turns out to be a Mesa Rectifier through some sort of Peavey cab. This is what I played through today at the actual Metal Jam - sounded bitchin'! The other rig is a Peavey XXX.

                          You go bro.
                          I enjoyed it alot.
The feel and vibe was good energy.
                          Oh you doing the solos
They were tough and I enjoyed both solos, rock on man.

I personally do not care how it was built as long as it is a good playing/sounding instrument.

Will try to get vids, the SOD song was the 1st up, so that may not have been filmed. I did wear a black beanie and did the Scott Ian Stomp (kinda)
