  • What's your string brand of choice?

I have a bunch of guitars...and I actually use different brands of strings for different guitars. So I'm curious...what strings do you use on your Charvels/Jacksons...and other guitars as well.
I use Elixir 9's for my Charvels and my PC-1. Use Fender bullets for my Strat, use DRs for my J-Custom IBZ and PRS CE22...all 9's; and DR 10's for my Gibson LP Std and Epi Sheraton.
The funny thing is...other than string gauge, I'm not sure I can tell the difference...unless I look at the ball ends (which are cut off on all the floyd trems anyway) . It's almost like cigarettes and instant coffee...do you really know the difference. Once again....I know the difference in gauge right away. Took my Strat for a setup once and specified 9's...they put 10s on, and I was installing new strings within minutes. But in all honesty, I can't really tell the difference between brands. I just switched to the Elixirs for my Charvels/PC-1 because I play those guitars the most, and I've been told they hold up longer. Still in the experimentation phase.

Anyway, I'm curious to hear what you use...and if you really think you can tell the difference between string brands...barring any obvious differences like gauge, ends, or color.

Elixirs to me are probably the brightest with DRs being second. Daddario are great strings but sometimes duds/dead strings can get in. I can tell Elixirs apart from most strings from the way they feel.

On my 7 strings I use D'Addarrio 9-46+62 and on my Jackson I use EB coated 9-46.

I've always used D'addario 9's. They always feel and sound good. I can't speak for any other brands because I haven't used anything else in 20+ years.

        I use D'addario 9's in E standard, 10's in D standard, etc etc.

I really love the D'addarios. They change the tone a little, surprisingly, but mainly they feel fantastic. As well, they give you those player points which I think is really cool. I swear by D'addarios.

I used to use a local made strings called "Fire Wires," but after a while, QC started to go down, if you could believe that. They gave you two bags, one with the E, D, B strings, and the other bag with A, G, and e strings. Most times they'd put them in the wrong bags, and give me two of the same string, (like 2 e's instead of a B and an e).

D'Addarios. I like the extra tension they seem to have.

GHS Boomers, 9's for E and Eb, 10's for D and lower. To me they have a bright, edgy sound.

I've recently started using DR Tite-fit 10-46 on my RR1T. These things stay new and bright sounding for quite a while. I didn't like the coated D'Addario strings because they felt gritty on bends when new until the coating contacting the fret surface wore off. I have nothing bad to say about their XL line though, I used those for 20 years. I just stopped using them in the last 3 years or so because they really corrode from my skin chemistry leaving black 'metal' smelling just on my fingertips.

I use the DR coated strings on my 2 guitars that don't get tons of play time since they don't corrode even though they start out a little more dull from the coating. I have found the consistency on them is not awesome though. Sometimes you'll get a set that really sheds the coating.

On my nylon acoustic I use D'Addario Pro Arte EJ45C composite normal tension. They are for lack of a better term, the shit.

I use Ernie Ball's on about everything. I use different guages edpanding how i tune the guitar and what feels good on the guitar. I've tried Elixirs and they just seemed dead to me.

Same here. 9s for regular tuning and 10s for half step down tuning. And you get freebies from D'addario!
