  • New iPad Day!!!

Hey I just won a brand new Apple iPad for my work on an "innovation project" at work. Pretty sweet. Still in the box all wrapped up. Wonder if I can trade it for a guitar...

They are pretty cool toys to keep actually. There is an app called Guitar Toolkit that is a killer practice and reference tool. Tuner, metronome, chord and scale reference including a reverse lookup feature that I love. (You punch up your finger positions and it tells you what chord you are playing.)

Plus you can easily peruse the JCF while taking epic toilet breaks.

I can do all that on my iPhone already!

Is it the 3G model or is it WiFi only model?
If it's WiFi only, I may have a trade for you.

Its the Wifi 16GB version - I was thinking I can tether it to my iPhone for internet connectivity. Now I just need to figure out how to tether...

Tethering is easy if you're jailbroken.

Otherwise it's expensive. I believe AT&T charges you $45 per month if you want to "officially" tether.
And they cap your data to 2GB per month... no unlimited data plans for tethering.

Oh, that sucks. I remember not checking off the tethering box when I got the iPhone 4 - I probably said something like "I don't need that shit."

Jailbreak your iPhone (if you haven't upgraded past 4.01 yet) and install MyWi from Cydia.
It turns your iPhone into a mobile hotspot.

If you're already at iOS 4.1, wait a few weeks... the jailbreak for that is almost done.

I'm on 4.1 already... Not sure about jailbraking though - I don't like to wrestle with my devices.

Nothing to wrestle with really. User jailbreaks are pretty simple these days.
Once the jailbreak is done, you simply get access to Cydia... a fantastic source of apps and utilities that Apple won't allow in the App store.
If you ever have to go to Apple for a warranty repair, simply restore the phone with a fresh OS install. (Apple will make you do this anyway as part of their troubleshooting procedures).
It wipes all evidence of the jailbreak thus maintaining your warranty.
