No doubt...one of the most brutal off-seasons in quite some time.

Bout time this thread got started. I"m looking forward to the season too. Was nice watching Colby Armstrong get the overtime shootout winner last night for the Leafs against the Flyers.

You're not lying. Reminded me of when the Pens had their rebuild firesale when Jagr, Straka, Kovalev, Lang and the kitchen sink were moved in the span of a couple of years.

                Optimism.

Nobody is happy that many of the fan favorites were shipped off to other destinations, but the core players are still here and it looks like we got some good replacements for what we lost.

Todd from what I saw last night you guys got some promising home grown prospects, may not be NHL ripe enough today but certainly will be in the very near future. You also have some young guys who'll get an increased role and will step up nicely with additional icetime and experience.

Yes, salary cap be damned, we are hopfully going to come out of this alright. As much as those who were shipped off (and screwed by their agents - *cough*Niemi*cough*) played a role in winning the cup this year, they all had their flaws.

For example, Versteeg... I very much wanted him to just calm down when he got a break-away - he had many thoughout the season and playoffs - but he was like a bunny rabbit on crank when he finally got to the goaltender. A little patience and I think he could have scored more goals.

With Byfuglien... Big man, you can't deny it. But he kept forgetting what his mantra should have been - "get your big ass in front of that goaltender!"

With Nemo... Hey, great goaltender, hands down, but despite the stellar playoff performance, he really didn't play a full season. I would have liked to see him prove himself in a Blackhawk sweater, but greed seemed to get the best of him. (or his agent)

Ladd... His departure probably hurt the most. He had the experience that the Blackhawks needed to take it all the way.

Burish / Eager - Great personalities, great agitators, but when the name of the game is production and points, those attributes can come from different sources.

Yes, the new kids look good. Mix them up with Sharpie, Kaner, Duncs, Seabs, Soup, Jelly, and Tazer and I think we'll be deep in the playoffs, if not the finals again.

i'd rather have an owner who will spend to keep his guys, pay cap fines, luxury taxes, profit raping sharing etc.,
and want to win as the ultimate bottom line.

granted, i have no idea how financially set the hawks were so don't take it a s a jab,
just as someone who feels fortunate to have had the luxury of steinbrenner.

Not sure about the fines involved, but when you hear reports that the Blackhawks are still in the red, you'll understand why they have to make concessions to keep the team on the ice.
