  • Who gigs their most expensive/ rarest gear?

Anyone have a really rare or really expensive guitar they normally play out with, instead of locking it away in a case? I'd love to see the guy who has a torn up zoraxe or original 1958-65 lp they always play live. Anyone?

i gig all my guitars, some are more rare some not so much. my feeling is that guitars are meant to be played, not hoarded in some closet. Honest play wear, to me, should not detract from instrument provided its not abused.

some of more more 'rare/expensive' (relatively speaking, not compared to a 59 LP) guitars being gigged:

    1997 koa pc1

my 1996 MIJ richie sambora black paisley strat

    my 2010 charvel blue flame

here's a parker fly mojo in limited edition "fall" olive burl, one of 25 made.

while not necessarily rare or expensive, here's my 2002 PC1

You do know that Les Paul's weren't made from 61 to 65, unless you count the first year SG's that still had Les's name on them...

i only play my expensive guitars live. it's why i bought them. they look cooler and are more reliable. i DO take a cheapy as a back up, but they usually only get played if a string breaks or i just bought it.
        GEAR:

some guitars...WITH STRINGS!!!! most of them have those sticks like on guitar hero....AWESOME!!!!

some amps...they have some glowing bottle like things in them...i think my amps do that modelling thing....COOL, huh?!?!?!

        and finally....

i have those little plastic "chips" used to hit the strings...WHOA!!!!

Ditto. I use a mutt with a fixed bridge that is in drop-d as my backup guitar. I always have a custom or a USA Jackson as my primary guitar.

I don't gig. But I've wondered the same thing, especially hearing about all the thefts around Austin anyway. I think it would be a shame to buy those nice guitars and not use them though.

I generally use my 'disposable' guitars for shows (main guitar is a DK1), but I've used expensive stuff here and there:

              CS XTRR

              GMW koa
Popular is not the same as good
Rare is not the same as valuable
Worth is what someone will pay, not what you want to get

Greg Martin (Kentucky Head Hunters and Rufus Huff) plays his 58 Les Paul and 57 strat at all his shows.
Plays thru a Vintage Marshall Plexi too.
Pics on You tube go have a look.
Greg is one of a kind, very down to earth and just plain cool.
                Really? well screw Mark Twain.

Ive played my DKMGTFF nearly 100 shows in 5 states. Its not expensive, as far as a Jackson model goes, its pretty rare(Ive never seen another outside of advertisements for it).

There are some guitars I don't gig out with but for the most part everything goes in cases and comes back with me. So here are a few examples.

SL2H Ultraviolet Burst through limited edition Randy Rhoads Marshall

87 Soloist Purple/Black Zebra through the Rhoads Marshall

Midnight Manhattan Blue Les Paul Limited Edition and the Rhoads Marshall

Trans Purple SL2H limited run (12 were made)

89 Rhoads with factory scalloped 12-22 frets through the Rhoads Marshall of course

Purple with Black Bevels Custom Shop Kelly (Originally built for and owned by Jack Frost)

Yup. '07 (or is it '08?) Les Paul Custom Shop Axcess FR in Firetiger. One of only 3 out there. I've used it for small gigs and for rehearsal. When the bigger gigs start up, I'll be using it then along with my new Jackson RR1 Bengal and my Charvel Custom Shop Star...

I played my ash-bodied 24 fret Jackson Stars Rhoads at a Metal Jam:

Two of my favorite guitar colors right there! I wish Jackson would still do the UVB.

I don't have anything rare or expensive so I don't have that problem. Everything I own is road scarred and gig abused.
