  • Hardest songs to play?

I was listening to some neo-classical shred and started to wonder what are the hardest songs to play. I've heard Perpetual Burn by Jason Becker is up there. What in you're experience have you found really, really challenging to learn how to play?

Well I had a bit of a time playing "Smoke on the Water" at my gig last week!

'Trane's "Giant Steps", managed to play maybe a quarter of the tune, all this neo-classical stuff seems like taking a piss after that. If one day I get the need to be in top shape I know what I have to master. Here's the sheet music going along with the tune http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2kotK9FNEYU notice how absurd most of the fingerings are if you apply it to the guitar.

If youre opening for Slayer, then the hardest would most likely be "Karma Chamelon".............

Michael Romeo doing some fast sweep tapping, its pretty sweet.

Watching Micheal plays this, it looks so easy! I've seen him once live and he is a flawless player, very impressive.

Thanks for sharing this Endrik! Pretty cool video with the score in the background. I bet with ya about the fingerings, some jazz tunes can be quite something!

I was actually unfamiliar with this guy until I saw this video. He has a great tone and picking/fingering technique. I really liked that tapping phrase he played. I think he needs to spend some time working on his finger and whammy vibrato though, because his playing lacks a little soul for me. Sometimes to express emotion or tension through your music you have to be able to shake that finger/whammy vibrato like it owes you money or be willing to stop your bends a little sharp or flat.

Anyway I have to check more of his stuff out.

I was like, "I could never play this.", and then the sax kicked in.

Even the chord progression can be a good challenge!

The main riff to "Harvester of Sorrow" the way James Hetfield plays it. Screw that middle finger E5 shit! Makes it easier my rear end.

Not just the solos either, the rhythm part is difficult as well.
