  • Scariest game ever made?

    Anyone here play games?

I was going through an old filing cabinet today (Yes, filing cabinets are good places for games!) and I stumbled upon System Shock 2. Man, was that game scary as hell when it came out! I don't care easily, but SS2 was so claustrophobic, foreboding and suffocating that I think it's the scariest game ever made.

Anyone have any votes for the scariest game ever made?

Dont know about scary, but the first Mega Man Legends(Playstation action adventure RPG) game had the most in depth and haunting story line Ive ever seen. I love it you can just absolutely lose yourself in it. It felt like another world to me the first time I played all the way through it.

yes, system shock 2 was really scary!!
I loved the atmosphere, one of my favourite games for sure...

bioshock somehow didn't work that great for me. I dunno why...
looked awesome at first, but somehow it got boring pretty early in the game.

but did you try out the thief saga?
great story and awesome level design. the AI is soso (won't bug you much if you liked SS2 ), but along with SS2 this is one of the most intense games I've played with regard to atmosphere.

SS2 was definitely terrifying. I was dying to play it but my media got ruined and I've never been able to find it again. There is a mod out there that updates the graphics a little bit. If you like the gameplay, make sure to play the deus ex games.

Clive Barker's Undying, built on the quake engine didn't have the creep factor that SS2 had, but it had a bunch of fly back arms flailing scare moments in it for me.

I found the recent doom games relied a little too much on the "Haha! a wall full of demons just opened behind you! Owned!" mechanism. The first ones were awesome and the first quake was amazing though.

AI doesn't bother me... I am from that era of shitty AI LOL.

I liked Doom 3, but Doom was always about killing a metric fucktonne of demons, not one at a time bullshit.

Dues Ex was PHENOMENAL. that is one of my all-time favs. the original Fallout was great too, and Fallout 3 is outstanding if you haven't played it. I have not played New Vegas yet but I am dying to get my hands on it!

The first quake will always have a special place in my heart. If I could get a CS Jackson with MOP/Abalone Quake logo inlays I would!

"Undying" (produced by Electronic Arts and written by Clive Barker) was PANTS-WETTINGLY scary. It had all the freaky elements of his movies like "Hellraiser" but with the addition of your being in the middle of the action. The gameplay was pretty good, too.

The sad part was that the game didn't sell too well (in fact, it did pretty crappy), so there might not be very many copies out there. But if you want to wet yourself playing a PC game, Undying would definitely be it.

If you like the original Fallout, and liked Fallout 3 you need to get New Vegas. It isn't perfect but it feels so much more like the original Fallout than Fallout 3 did.

Dude, I almost got divorced because of Fallout 1 and 2. Those were the most addictive games for me. I'd get homw from work and plop down in front of the computer until it was time for work again. Fallout 3 is pretty sweet and I'm going through it again as a bad guy this time to see the differences in the story while I'm waiting for my bro to finish Fallout Vegas so I can borrow it (I'm a cheap bastard).

Scariest game for me was the first resident evil. Played that one in the dark with the surround sound going. Scared the piss out of me.

You definitely do. Although, these old games can make you wonder "How the hell....did I find this game so good?"

That was me with Star Wars: Jedi Knight Dark Forces II. Mind you, that's still a favourite.

Aliens on the C64. The part where you have to guide four marines back to the APC. Whoa!
