I had a Mitey Mite neck that had dots that were just painted on under the finish. What crap.

Sure I know that inlays can't indicate the value of an instrument, just wanted to say a price tag won't either. Especially not on a stratocaster.
I was just kidding about the dots...

I personally don't have anything against dots, although I prefer sharkfins or Iommi cross inlays, which are always pleasing my eyes...
I think the connection dots -> cheap is mostly for jackson players since jackson kept the sharkfins off most of their import lines as one of the most significant differences.

I definitely agree with that...no offense to anyone with a Jackson without sharkies...but they just seem to be the right look for these guitars...as do ebony fingerboards (except on the maple necks...there, they look a little out of place...my opinion of course). Nothing as cool looking as a USA soloist with an ebony fingerboard, sharkies in the right direction and a standard pointy headstock (non-reverse).

Of course, once again, the Jacksons without any inlays are some of the sweetest ones of all If Jackson's gonna do maple...I'll take mine without anything please!

Those imports with the shitty white plastic dots ("Nah, we won't even try to pretend it's mother of pearl...") didn't help the "dots don't mean cheap" cause.

im after a jackson san dimas, the ontario made ones, most of the ones i look at have dots, 22 frets, and no binding on the headstock or neck, and thats the look i love! with ebony board looks so good, i'd prefer maple but there seems to practically none in maple!
but they dont say cheap to me whatsoever
infact in all honesty... and i hope at least somebody agree's..
SOMETIMES sharkies actually cheapen a guitar more so that dots to me
cause it seems alot of the newer cheaper crappy jacksons are trying to throw in as many expensive looking features as possible, "looking" being the key word
for example a while back i had a dk2fs, it has rosewood neck with sharkies, binding on fretboard and headstock, an a trans red finish
and it played terribly, quality was awful, its as if jackson were trying to deceive me. well it worked

Yup , Sharkies on a rosewood board with no binding reminds me of all the Washburn/ Aria Pro 'it's almost a Jackson' models of the late 80's

Really? I like dots the best out of all inlay options... I like it simple. They are simple, classy, basic and serve their purpose without fault. Dots are the perfect inlay shape.

My bass has a nice no dot fretboard...
I like the shark teeth on the Dinky.

Dots are just common = boring

I do like fancy inlay work...

                        How about Vinyl Inlays?

Has anyone tried them or use them now?

My Charvel has black dots... they are cool but for $20 this looks like a cool option http://stores.ebay.com/creative-cuts Fuck load of different options and cheap...

Those are lame. 100% lame, IMO. Stick-on "inlays" are pretty cheesy. Sorry.

About as lame as listening to Eddie Money and actually admitting it - even if only to pad your post count...
