I have an older clam shell-style cell that I've used the past 4 years. My wife currently has the same one and absolutely *HATES* it and the fact it can't use the web. Not only does everyone I know/work with have one, it's some kind of smart(ass) phone, i-, blackberry, etc....must be a NYC thing. I'm gonna upgrade hers to a smart one at the end of the year when it won't cost as much. I get flak for having a clam-shell. Can't imagine not having one now.

I like the older phone cos it has a relatively small footprint and fits on my belt. I actually bought another like it off the bay as a backup, cos they don't make em anymore! It's a pain to send texts though with the regular phone keyboard. It does have a camera...but it blows!

I've got a Sanyo Incognito..not a smart phone, but works fine for me. No, I would never be with a phone of some kind, just for emergency purposes alone. I do hate being available all the time, so I shut it off when I need some quiet time.

Been looking at the Droid for my next one though..or some version of it.

The cell phone I have sits in my truck only!!!! It is in case of break downs only.

Cel phones are the death of this generation. Kids would rather text then talk to each other. It drive me crazy . My son will text his buddies in stead of calling them . It will take him 15 or so texts to get the same answer you can get in a 2 min. call. He also will text girls instead of calling them. I think it is so un-personal to text. Also stores want you to text them for discounts and free things. What the F*** is that about. People also just talk on them all over the place in the restroom and in the store . Lets get some manners with cel phones.
            sorry for the rant.

+1 I'll join the Droid collective. As much as I travel, it's become a must have for me.

One problem with the iPhone & Droid is that most of the apps violate your privacy.

"An examination of 101 popular smartphone "apps"—games and other software applications for iPhone and Android phones—showed that 56 transmitted the phone's unique device ID to other companies without users' awareness or consent. Forty-seven apps transmitted the phone's location in some way. Five sent age, gender and other personal details to outsiders."

Apple & Google claim that they require apps to request that you allow them to send the data, but I'm pretty sure that's not really how it is framed to the user. The app requests that you let it use the network to do its thing, but it doesn't differentiate between what's really necessary to perform its function & what is just the selling of your private info to third parties. If somebody wants to get rich, they should come up with some kind of firewall app.

I have one, its not a smart one either. I don't think I'll ever find a smartphone with vacuum tubes(so why buy one, right). I had to search high and low for a cell phone that could be biased to run 6L6's or EL34's. You know, depending on what kind of tone you want; crunchy lows, or great mids.

Damn straight! Best damned phone Ive ever owned! And Ive had just about everything except an iPhone... fuck crApple!

Seriously though, for me its just so much more than a phone. Its an AWESOME GPS navigation, its a flashlight, it will help you find what ever you need and whats closest, its a metal detector (yes, no shit), its pulse monitor (again, yes), its a note pad, its an damn good alarmclock (the only one that can consistently wake me up EVERY day for work), its my MP3, its for email, eBay, games, price checking, checking my bank account on the fly... the list goes on. It replaces so many things that most people use on a day to day basis. If you were to total up just a few of the things I have listed, youd be WAY over the $200 that the phone costs. It doesent make sense NOT to have one.

I haven't had a house phone in a few years and only use my cell. May eventually pick up some sort of Droid, as my girlfriend got one a few months ago, and it's pretty damn cool.
