hey folks. Thanks for all your concerns.

I'm doing okay. The wife and kids are safe and our house has remained untouched. So all good news there.

Unfortunately for me, I was at work in Brisbane when the flash flood decimated downtown Toowoomba. Unfortunate because Toowoomba is perched atop the Great Dividing Range which runs down the east coast of Australia, so with the damage to townships down stream, I haven't been able to return home to be with my family. And with the flood waters now rising to overwhelm the city of Brisbane, the likelihood of me getting home in the immediate future is slim. They say it could be 2 or 3 more days before the floodwaters subside. In the meantime I am overstaying my welcome with friends in a nice suburb, high and dry above the projected maximum watermark. If you're familiar with my posts here, I'm sure you can imagine how annoying I must be in person.

In other news, the car you see above has been destroyed in the flood. If you have seen the footage from two days ago of parked cars being dragged into a raging culvert, you might make it out at the very end of the line of cars (the rear is just visible behind the white truck as the camera pans left). It didn't get dragged into the torrent, but it was slammed as the water picked up the line of remaining cars at about 4.15 into the video.
Amazing footage of East Creek near Chalk Drive / Chalk Lane rising and washing away lots of cars during Flash Flood in Toowoomba on Monday 10 January 2011. ...

I haven't been able to see it in person yet, since I'm stranded in Brisbane, but the ball'n'chain was very upset when she reported the state of it by phone.

In the end though, it is just a car and can be replaced. Most importantly my beautiful family is safe and remains safe in our home. Many, many families were not so lucky, losing their homes and some losing family members. So many are still missing. My heart aches when I read stories like the one about this brave boy who despite not being able to swim insisted that his rescuer save his little brother first.

It puts the loss of a car in complete perspective.

Again, thanks for all your concerns. That's why so many of us are such long-term members here. Apart from our shared love of music and guitars, we have become friends and share a genuine concern for each other's welfare. It means a lot
        Hail yesterday

Great to hear man! That toowoomba stuff is sickening to watch. Those stories just turn your stomach at the thought of it. Brisbane should be nearing peak now and start to go down, but who knows how long it'll take to get roads open/repaired. Hope you get to your family soon!

And hopefully the insurance company will give you enough for the car that you can get a turbo

my lack of deodorant can help out with those crocodiles you're spooked by.

Glad to hear you're ok VitG! How long do you reckon before the waters drain? I'm going to Australia in about 3 weeks, not really sure what to expect now :S. Brisbane and Surfer's Paradise were on the list too...well, I'll have to go to Brisbane anyway since the flight back to Europe is from there.

It's OK, I'll write to the Australian PM and demand they pull their fucking finger out with the clean-up, so your holiday doesn't get spoiled.
Have you done your homework? Watched those movies I have mentioned on more than one occasion? OK, for the last time (today), "Wolf Creek" and "Black Water". Suddenly Bognor Regis looks a little more attractive.
