Im in Dallas on buisness and stopped in one of the Dallas guitar centers. Ill say this. They had some really cool gear.A bunch of Bogners. Soldanos and I saw a Mike Learn Koi SL2HT on the wall used. They had some custom shop flame maple hand stained Mesa Boogies too. Very nice stuff.Lots of upper line PRS's and some really nice Gibsons as well.I was suprised to see all that stuff there. But as usual the sales people all acted like douche bags and were more concerned about themselves than customers. Oh well I should expect it after more than 20 years.....

A store that lets you play any guitar, stocks lots of hi end gear, and offers the best return policy must really suck. Tell a manager you arent happy and youll see that you get treated like royalty. Or come to okc and ill hook you up and make you a gc customer for lifeThis space for rent

BWAHAHAHA I doupt it. Stocking high end gear does not make a great store. I have never been treated like royalty in a GC no matter how much I have spent. You may be the exception, but guitar centers in general are the walmarts of music stores. Yeah they may have alot of things on sale, but never what I need, and very un-caring and lack luster sales people. There are a few small places here with way more cool people and cooler gear. Face it GC caters to the beginer and the mid level players. I dont play squires, ltds, or epiphones and that is 90% of what they have. The other 10% is over priced stuff that sits there for years.....No thanksH3LL IS HOME!!!

GC Louisville pissed me off. They had a used guitar, and I wanted to buy it. "Oh, you can't buy that until it comes off of a police hold". WHY THE HELL IS IT ON THE FLOOR IF YOU CAN'T SELL IT!
I told the sales person how I felt, and the store manager how I felt. Yet it still didn't seem to satisfy me. I think if I took said guitar and busted it over their heads I would have felt better...

Sux you had a bad experience, but there's gonna be some good GCs and some not so good ones, and good/bad employees, just like at any other company on earth.
They've all got corporate rules to follow and stock inventory they can move with some frequency. They have a lot more high end stuff available on line.
I assume that most excellent salespeople don't go into the business of selling guitars/amps, so GC takes a lot of musician-types, knowledgeable to varying degrees on instruments, etc., not necessarily graduates of leading business schools with tons of sales experience like you see trying to sell skinny jeans to obese people on The Apprentice.
Sounds like the guy above from Oklahoma takes it seriously.
GC definitely serves a need IMO, if they went out of business, who is left to turn to in most areas, besides pawn shops? Not too many specialty shops left from what I can tell.Jackson KV2

Stats law mandates police hold to be sure the gear isnt stolen. Gear is left out so if something is stolen the rightful owner can find his gear. I promise you that store wanted to sell you a used guitar, they just werent allowed by law.

Alot of excellent salespeople can work for gc. The commission pay scale is great and the discounts rule. It can be a career for some of us. Sorry if youve had a bad experience but dont judge the company off one guy or one store. Build a relationship with a salesguy and it will make your experience way better if you have a "go to" guyThis space for rent

See one of the problems is you cant have a relationship here.High turnover prohibits that. Also the worst sales people are musicians, at leat most of them. They want to be in a band, not sell things. You may take your job seriously and that is great, but no GC I have EVER been in in any state has been worth going back to. We have had at least one here for 25 years, and I will avoid them at all cost unless I really have to. Im sure they have some good people, but over all they could all burn down and I would not miss them one bit. The small places here are the cool ones, like Willies, Capitol Guitars and Encore. They dont cater to 13 year olds.H3LL IS HOME!!!

The lead guitarist for Iced Earth works at one of the GC's here, I bought a guitar from him. He's very cool to deal with, nice guy, I wouldn't say I have a relationship with him as a salesman, but there's another guy at the same that I do, he knows me and always calls if he gets a USA Jackson in... I don't always go look at them but I always appreciate the pointer.
So yeah, Guitar Center can suck or it can be cool, it all depends on who works there.
If I can I prefer to buy from the independent stores. We have a great Gibson dealer that is independent on the south side, and then there's Reno's for about anything else. So, I don't go to Guitar Center much, except cheap picks & strings.
