I don't want to live in fear either but you won't see me wrapping a cobra around my junk and shaking it at a honey badger to prove it.

You always have to read between the lines with these stories. Not likely a bungled rescue attempt, as the pirates intentionally killed some of their own. I could be totally off base, but sounds like there was some disagreement or commotion amongst the pirates. Panic ensues as the pirates argue or fight amongst themselves. Someone goes off the rails, and fires the RPG. At this point, they all realize the Navy is coming for them no matter what, and then all hell breaks loose. The extreme side of the pirates kill the hostages, then two pirates are killed by their own guys to end whatever disagreement had come to a head within their own group. Then the Navy arrives onboard and - discovering the hostages are already goners, along with two of the pirates themselves - light up on some of the remaining pirates to even out the body count. Including making the survivors watch a SEAL gut one of them with a knife, like he's making sushi.

The Seals should have gutted them all and thrown them in the water still alive, living chum for the sharks. Do THAT EVERY TIME and they might start preserving the lives of the hostages. Oh, leave ONE alive and whack off his peepee, and send him home to tell the tale.

Having said that, it was ridiculous for people to risk their lives sailing pirate-infested waters. Sadly most countries where they go to ports of call don't all them to carry weapons into their countries. That should be negotiated as well. Bad news all around....

What's all the hate? Pirates are cool and so is Somalia. No evil government, everyone's out on their own, you can do business in any way you like and don't have to follow silly things like moral and law. I bet they don't have to pay much taxes either. Fuck off commies!

The way things have been going, it's a pretty safe bet that the Somali pirate fleet will soon be outgunning the Royal Navy...

...unless the boys in the Navy start talking like Robert Newton

that is sad really but I'm with you...why sail through those waters without any form of protection...AK-47 or M-16's?

Bottom line is there is no negotiations with untrust. You kill the pirates first chance you get, if a civilian gets hurt or killed as hard as it is to say, so be it. It is better to try to rescue than to die at the hands of the pirate. The only negotiation is let the hostages go and you live, don't let them go and die...your choice.

I like the we operated when they hijacked that freighter or tanker where they picked them off from a distance putting an end to the situation.

I suppose Shreddermon might have a point, have you seen how some of these jokers hold their weapons? They are an accident waiting to happen, someone might get hurt! When that twat fires the rifle, he's going to discover that recoil is a bitch.

The people on the boat were stupid. They knew the risk of sailing in that part of the world. Its unfortunate they got killed over it, tho. That being said, the u.s navy could put and end to piracy very easily. Sail into Mogadishu, explain in no uncertain terms that any unauthorized ships will be blown out of the water, and then park a couple destroyers off the coast. End of problem.
Its a complete catastrophe. But Im a professional, I can rise above it. LOL

Funny how many people suddenly scream "off with their heads" when piracy goes public. But you know damn well if we were to go on the offensive people would cry foul about how it's a waste of money, we're trying to be the world police, blah blah blah. War on Drugs 2.0?

You guys are aware we have SOF on every continent and almost every country except Antarctica, right? 4 bible thumpers went sailin where they shouldn't have and got whacked. Shit happens. We stop shit like this on an almost hourly basis and you never hear about it, just the way it should be. There will always be piracy in the Indian Ocean. Anyone with a history book can tell you that. Somalia isn't the problem, it's the fact that side of the world is so poor and lawless that it's one of the only ways to make a living. The only reason most Americans even know about Somalia is because of Mark Bowden's journalism in the 90's and Ridley Scott.

Another day, another two fucknuggets cleansed from the gene pool. I'm sure the others are giving great intel that's being exploited at this time.

                                Nothing to see here.
