Just like the plant in Deleware that used to build Pontiac Solstices begins production for the Fisker Karma all electric luxury sports sedan on March 21. New Company, New Jobs.
If you build it, they WILL buy it. C'mon, we're still in America.Transitioning from Retired Musician from cover bands to a Full time vocalist/frontman/guitarist in an original and covers band....it's been a while and this should get NASTY!

This is also a good article:
A listing of all the vehicles built in North America, with the origins of their engines and transmissions and whether the factory is unionized.
I like this one:
Reporting the origin of the engine and transmission is also tricky. Take Honda’s engine plant in Anna, Ohio. Although the engine of the Acura RDX is made there, Japan is listed as the country of origin. That is because one expensive part, the turbocharger, is imported from Japan (and installed by Ohio workers).-------------------------

This stuff is common knowledge, and is quite understood. I could argue with you forever about why Pontiac should be allowed to return, but the most important reason is this. They will be designed, manufactured and sold in and from the USA. All American, like it used to be. I grew up not even 1/2 mile from the GM then GM/Delco plant in Ewing New Jersey. That plant made parts. From electrics to clips to just about anything.....that's how new Pontiac would do it.Transitioning from Retired Musician from cover bands to a Full time vocalist/frontman/guitarist in an original and covers band....it's been a while and this should get NASTY!

I wonder if it would be in GM's interest to allow a new company to use the names and trademarks associated with Pontiac. I am assuming there is some reason they decided to put the kibosh on a sale in favor of a phase out, such as brand overlap and it's possible that a new company called "Pontiac" might cause a similar problem for them.
Would GM be required to allow this new company to use its names and trademarks, and if so, would it be in their interests? And if not, would a new "Pontiac" brand matter if it weren't allowed to sell "Firebirds" or "GTOs"?

While I understand the sentiment for the old Pontiac vehicles, the thought of resurrecting the company and having it as another line wouldn't work IMO.
The auto industry is a zero sum game and any gains that Pontiac would make would be pulled from another companies pocket. Seeing as how Honda, Toyota and Hyundai all have US plants it would be providing for some workers at the expense of others.
Now, I'm not saying I wouldn't like to see some of the designs and brand names brought back. Lawd knows how those Azteks were the schniznit...
Actually, I'd love if GM or whoever would put a company together to continue the "good" cars from the old lineups.
Pontiac TA/Fiero/Grand National - Give them some updates but keep some traditional styling queues.
Saturn Sky/SC series - Make them the entry level and convertible of the lineup.
etc etc...Last edited by Flatpicker; 03-03-2011, 03:37 PM.Build a man a fire and he's warm for a day, set a man on fire and he's warm for the rest of his life.
