Former Alice in Chains bassist Mike Starr died in Utah ... TMZ has learned.
Mike's dad tells TMZ, "It's a terrible shock and tragedy."
Sure it is, especially when you can't hang out and do drugs with your kid any longer. That guy was a mess on Celebrity Rehab, saw this one coming eventually. RIP
I feel my soul go cold... only the dead are smiling.
the two best Alice albums were the first two that he played on. rest in peace Mike, another guy who
unfortunately couldn't get out. It's a game of numbers, and the junk does not discriminate.
Very sad. I met Mike, in SLC, back in 91 and he was a very humble and mellow cat. I had no idea he was on a tv show about rehab...seems like a fucked up idea to me. Mike had a great melodic sense and was a tight, solid player. RIP dude.
still waiting for the cause of death. of course overdose is the most probable, but after so many years of abuse it could be anything. heart attack, who knows. mike starr was definitely not an amateur though, that we know. i'm telling you, people are totally losing it lately. it seems like every night you put the t.v. on and some "crack media" ticker rolls by on the bottom of the screen announcing the latest death, or arrest, or tragedy. it's really insane. that's why i stick to sports. the latest tragedy tickers are on the sports channels too. crack media, it's everywhere.
i liked mike's bass playing.
i spoke to him on the phone back in the year 2000, maybe early 2001, he was in newport beach trying to recover, and one of wolfie's pals hooked him up with me. problem was i was not 'in recovery" so to speak, but i sure was playing really well at the time. 2003 was probably the last time when i could say i was a guitar player, my playing really dropped off for good after that time.
he seemed really cool when we spoke on the phone though, but nothing ever materialized. i'm almost positive if we had gotten together, we probably would have started partying and trouble would have definitely ensued.
