Hey QR, glad to see that things are well where you are, I remembered you were down south anyway.

I was in Sendai at the time, we had some pretty big earthquakes in that area the last couple years, but this one takes the cake. Our lab was TRASHED! I was in the hallway so I didn't see any of it happen.

I'm temporarily back at my mom's place now, giving my old DK2M and Kelly Star some overdue lovin'

        New-to-me views on radiation:
A sea-change is needed in attitudes to radiation, argues Oxford University physicist Wade Allison.

Sounds like the guy who wrote that article was reading old Tesla stories. Nothing like a disaster to bring out the crazies.

So according to the article, this HAARP thingie was put in place by the USS Ronald Reagan and sat in the ocean for days, emitting a 2.5Hz tone which subsequently induced the earthquake - 2.5Hz being the natural resonance of an earthquake. HAARP is part of the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) GMD system.

              It's is pretty far out.

The USS Ronald Reagan being the aircraft carrier which has been instrumental in Operation Tomodachi ("Friend" in Japanese), which is the US effort that helped restore Sendai airport and is continuing to help with the nuclear power plant failure, leads me to believe that the conspiracy theorists are full of crap.

Some people have way too much time on their hands.
It's all about the blues-rock chatter.

Another big one off the coast of Sendai last night. M7.1 according to US Geological Survey.

Registered at a little over 3 where I am.

There go my hopes for a lot of little ones instead of another big one.

I was hoping they'd stop altogether. How are things there now?

                        G,

My town wasn't affected by the big quake last night. My little girl slept through it, as it was only a 3+.

Power out in 4 million homes across six prefectures in the northeast though.

As far as stopping altogether, there have been 62 earthquakes within the past week (although most have been too small to cause major damage) according to USGS.

I had a friend on Facebook who was spreading every conspiracy theory she could relating to the quake, tsunami and nuke plant failure. She was screaming that HAARP did it from day 1 and that we were all gonna die of the radiation. I pointed out that we all survived Chernobyl and she said this was 10x as bad. Asked for sources she said she had a secret friend at NASA who she couldn't name or "they" would kill him. We are no longer friends because she was offended when I said she was probably making things worse by irresponsibly spreading all this crap that she would not substantiate. To hear her tell it all of Japan was doomed and so was the US from the radiation that has spread here. She went off her rocker last year during the BP oil spill, which WAS a massive clusterfuck, and now buys every harebrained story about ANYTHING. Sad, but enough is enough.

Will this ever stop? This must be exhausting to deal with every day:

                              News for today:
A powerful earthquake has hit north-east Japan, exactly one month after the devastating earthquake and tsunami.
The 7.1-magnitude tremor triggered a brief tsunami warning, and forced workers to evacuate the crippled Fukushima nuclear plant. The epicentre of the quake was in Fukushima prefecture, and struck at a depth of just 10km (six miles).

A powerful earthquake hits north-east Japan, as the country marks one month since the devastating earthquake and tsunami.

There are nutjobs that freak out and blame everyone but the kitchen sink for shit that happens in the world... I was scheduled to carry an omikoshi (a house that the gods survey towns that they guard over in) in a parade at a festival yesterday, but the festival was canceled, so I took my family to go look at some cherry blossoms instead. We ran into an "anti nuclear power" demonstration. I asked one of the demonstrators,

"What do you propose as an alternate power source if your wishes come true and we get rid of nuclear plants altogether?" His reply,
"Something natural and not harmful to the environment." I tried to help him out, and asked,
"Geothermal?" and he came back with
"What's geothermal? I'm talking solar energy and stuff like that!"

If he were a representative sample of the demonstrators, it would be very sad indeed. In my opinion, being "ANTI" something is not constructive at all, unless you can suggest a viable alternative (and therefore being "PRO" whatever the alternative is).

We had the television on this evening, and they issued an earthquake warning a full minute and a half before we felt the quake. It was the first time that I felt that planting my daughter in front of the TV (which we only do for the 45 minutes that we are making dinner) was a GOOD thing.

There was another one, a bit smaller, about 10 minutes later.

BTW, went to the post office and sent off the letter and catalogs to you this morning.
