What if Hendrix just could have only lived period. I would love to have seen
his reaction to some of the great players he helped spawn. That guy was
one cool son of a gun too, the type of guy who enjoys things and recognizes beauty
in all its forms. All hail Jimi, he's a God.

There's just something raw about his recordings though, might sound too good floyded or something.

noneed for a floyd, his songs and tone were strong enough to hold up for the rest of time.

He could play guitar, sing, and even chew gum... All at the same time!

I can't think of a single famous player who changed from playing exclusively Fenders to playing exclusively Jackson/Charvels.

Actually, Floyd would have had it written into the Kramer deal where Hendrix gets loose units whenever he wants. Getting Fender to install them, however, might have been a different story.

And while Jimi may have liked to see all the people he influenced, it's doubtful the public and critics at the time would. Trower was slammed when he first came out with his power trio for ripping off Hendrix. Today we hail him as a hero, as with a lot of the players who took Randy's ideas and ran with them. Back then, they were considered to be jumping on someone else's bandwagon.

to me you had Jimi, EVH/Randy Rhoads and Yngwie Malmsteen who changed the guitar playing world.

Blind Melon Endrik from Estonia was the first to dish out the blues
and show the Robert Johnsons of the world how it was done. the guy never, ever gets
the credit, and it pisses me off. Motherfucker from Estonia set the whole delta blues world on fire and never got so much as a tip of the hat.

                          Exactly..in that very order!

I would say Jimi, Ed and Yngwie..Randy was right there though. But that trinity was most influential! But what about Iommi? He tuned down so he can play with his nubs. That was the most fortunate horrible accident in guitar history!!!

IMO..These days Jeff Loomis is inspiring a generation of young 6-7 string shredders! Way more than other 7 stringers including Vai. Vai definitely made his mark..but it could've been bigger if he actually wrote more accesible SONGS that are pleasant to the ear. He's plenty capable ("Ex:For the love of God), but choses to be...um..goofy!
"Bill, Smoke a Bowl and Crank Van Halen I, Life is better when I do that"
                          Donnie Swanstrom 01/25/06..miss ya!

Lets not forget Jimmy Paige... most all rock song riffs are ripped off from Zeppelin.

Couldn't agree more. I saw him live back in 90-something and I wasn't even a huge fan, really went just because I got free tickets and "what the fuck" but he was very impressive, talented, really had it together on stage, good show... Thing is, I could only say I really "liked" about two or three of the songs he did. :dunno:
