  • Got back from Vegas last night..

I can say I went, I can say I had fun, but, don't have the need to go back.

That is one expensive place to go and enjoy yourself. I am not just talking about the gambling. If you didn't gamble, it is still expensive.

Ordered 2 cocktails and it cost me $21.00. I found out was cheaper to find a cheap table game and get free drinks. Got free buffet with my room, but, the food was horrible. Had the shits directly after.

Like I say, I still had fun. I ran into a horrible string of luck playing texas holdem tournaments. I was put out with pocket aces 4 times in 2 days:

First time the other guy had pocket aces too.....he drew a flush.

Second time I went all in over top of a guy and he had 5-9 offsuit and called. Flopped 6-7-8 right off the go. He had no reason in there as he wasn't short stacked and blinds were still low.

Third time a guy had A-J offsuit. I was in position 3 ( right after the big blind ) and go all in as I don't want yet another person getting the cheap flop and outdrawing me again. He has 3 Jacks off the flop and wins.

Fourth time a guy has a pair of 6 sixes. We both go all in. I hit my third ace off the flop and he hits third 6 in the turn and fourth 6 on the river.

Now I play very well. I have been around poker literally my whole life thanks to my parents. They introduced me to Texas holdem in the mid 80's. I know the percentages, I read people well, but, this episode wasn't about that. It was just luck of the draw. No matter how good you are, you can not out maneuver someone else's blind luck.

A friend of mine that went with me does not play as well as I do, but, I work with him constantly. He got third place and I was proud as hell of him since 2 of the guys at the final table played regularly on the WSOP tour. One I recognized. He is from Holland. The other I didn't, but, I knew he was friends with the guy from Holland. My friend put the Holland guy out. -Lou

so the guy flopped the nut straight on you with the 6-7-8, that's a tough loss.

I recognise some of the words....but it makes no sense. Never mind the poker, what about the liquor?
My mate went there to an Arms Fair, he spent ALL his money on firing machine guns and shagging hookers. I was soooo proud of him.
So I woke up,rolled over and who was lying next to me? Only Bonnie Langford!

I have done Vegas very cheap, but haven't been in a while. They used to have a lot of free stuff to do.

Ron, from talking to many people that haven't been there in a while, I get the same story. However, It has become more of a tourist attraction than a gambling place. This is why they don't throw out the freebies like they used to. There were more families there with kids than I could ever imagine. Why the hell would you take infants and small children there? Sit at the swimming pool all day? It definately was not the Vegas I heard stories of.-Lou

Yeah I went back in the early/mid 90's for a CES show and the town was a lot cheaper. It was a lot shadier back then though too. Went in the last couple years for my honeymoon and it got real expensive and it's just like a giant brand name supermall now.

bibz, don't worry, there's plenty of unsavory tplaces, people and things to do there, it is a tourist attarction for families now,
but that's down stairs, there's more clubs there to completely lose it in than ever before, the corporations own the casinos but
there's a plethora of places to go for outlandish behavior, trust me.

Yes, just step out onto Las Vegas BLVD and you will have a couple people snapping cards at you that offer free rides to the brothels on the outskirts of Vegas. There is a lot to do there. Lots of trouble to get into.-Lou
