California's fiscal problems are largely due to the proposition system being written so as to automatically fully fund all propositions voted into law by the people. If they were subject to appropriations like everything else, then 2/3 of the state budget would not be automatically spoken for. Only because the state was so damn rich did that actually work for a long time. That has to be addressed, but it's very unpopular to even speak of it.

The Southeast is unfortunately very right-wing. Everyone in Mississippi is now ecstatic that Florida passed the law requiring drug testing for welfare applicants. Never mind the 4th Amendment, and when I mentioned it, was actually told, "The Constitution was okay 100 years ago, but it's outdated now!" We're doing it to ourselves.....

I would have like to have seen a stronger physical response by the police to what had happened. A lot of people went further than they probably would have had them seen more people around them get tased and paddy wagoned. Unfortunately some people only learn when physically corrected.

I heard they caught some national athlete - water polo, LOL! - on video trying to torch a police car, and he is begging for mercy. People are actually contemplating that. He's 17 - that's NOT 10! If he gets a pass, guess what happens next time? Someone ELSE will EXPECT a pass, and get it, because you will have set a precedent. I don't really feel sorry for the stupid idiot, he could have killed numerous people making a bomb out of a police car. Apparently he botched the job, only good thing about the whole mess!

No, I'm saying shoot the Anarchists and terrorists and stop passing it off as "just letting off steam" or some other childish excuse. Demand that mature responsible adults behave in a mature responsible manner. There's no legitimate reason to loot and riot over a sporting event. None.

No, you do want a Gestapo, different SS agencies did most of the jew hunting. Gestapo loved getting rid of anarchists or anyone who didn't act like a model citizen.

2012 election- pot has a very very strong chance of being legalized in california.
Newc, i'm not clear on your point of why it can't be regulated. It's currently illegal and still the biggest cash crop in california as it is.
it's gonna be a tight election, but i think it passes this time wihtout a doubt.
