  • What if I told you I could cure neck dive with no guitar mods?

I've searched high and low on the interwebs, and no one has the idea or a product like I have in mind. Everyone's experienced a guitar that neck dives, and probably owns one. (Or seventeen...) I'm telling you, I have the cure. No modifications to your guitar, no moving and redrilling strap buttons, or any of that crap. I'm going to make a few of them, make a video (My 'patent' because I cant afford to pay 10k+ for a stinking patent. Btw, any better ideas? Please?) and see what the popularity would be for them before I go nuts. I thought I'd throw it by you guys to see what you thought?

I used to work at the USPTO, and am now at a patent law firm.

If you want to derive some revenue based on your exclusive rights to produce/sell/import your product, DO NOT post a video on youtube.

Assuming that you live in the US, getting a patent doesn't cost 10k.

Haha! Muff Dive... No, nothing like that! Thats after the gig. So, yes as you later said, when you let go of the neck, it falls. Making you unhappy. When you're playing, you're constantly having to support the neck with the fretting hand to keep it where you want. I'm talking about something that when you let go of the guitar completely, it stays right there, where you left it.

Just trying to gauge my market on this thing. How much would one pay for such a problem solver? I currently know numerous people with this problem, and they want one yesterday.

If your answer is weight(counterbalance) it has already been done.

My answer is, indeed, weight & counterbalance. I know its been done, but through either modification or some hideous thing that mounts to the back strap button. If its not one of those, please go on? Stop me dead in my tracks right now, I don't want to waste my time. Nor others for that matter.

I'II go with Axe wielder's solution.

What with the price of lead at the mo, if you have that much of it, you'd be better off going down the scrappy, weighing it in and buying a more balanced guitar with your new found riches.

Heavy metal rules at the mo. All over the UK we are losing our internet and phone services as theiving gits are ripping out and pulling through all the copper phone lines to weigh in. Took twenty engineers three days to reinstall the last lot of cabling and have services up and running again.

Yeah that balloon is a lot less offensive.

I think the key thing here is to make it very cheap to produce and sell then you might make some money in volume of sales.
I don't have any guitars with that issue so I won't be buying one.
Patent application last time I checked was around $500.00.Depends on if its a new idea or a plan to improve on a previous product.

The idea i had was to sew a pocket onto the back side of my black leather strap and slip a floyd brass big block into it, it would be unnoticeable. Hadn't tried it yet tho.

I figured it was a strap related item so you may be on to him Trem.
One guy in our old band used buck shot in a pouch sewn into his strap worked pretty good too.

save all the sewing and gaffa tape the block to your strap

Interesting. A Floyd big block (Which costs $40+ last I looked, and probably works better inside the guitar?) and buck shot... But duct tape is messy and sewing sucks.

*Edit* They've gotten cheaper.. But still. Might as well hang a rock in a sock off there, at least that's free.
