Someone looking to sell a guitar without getting a premium membership to post in the classified section?
This is a good way to go about it. Hey, your secret is safe with me! I won't say a word.

      ^Getting that vibe myself.
I want to go out nice and peaceful in my sleep like my grandfather, not screaming and hollering like the passengers in his car.

There are `collections` and then there are `collectors`....
Collections are mostly shit that someone has just happened to aquire... While collectors are hobby nerds IMO

To me the question sounds like "Should I sell my Darth Vader or should I sell my Obi Wan?"
        Nerrrrrrrrrrrdd!!!

The most anal hobby nerds I`ve ever come across are classic musclecar collectors who won`t let you within 3 metres of thier car while holding a fizzy drink!
        Nerrrrrrrrrrrrdd!!!
I do respect the guys who actually race a high end collectable on the track though... That`s gotta take balls... BIG balls!

I doubt if any `collector` would ever let me play one of their guitars for more than five minutes or even let me change those 4 year old strings...

Exactly how much is that `mojo` worth? Anyone?

The guitars mojo is the only thing of real value about a guitar.

Where's the guy with the sig about worth, and value and all that

It's all about the blues-rock chatter.

I'd keep the Charvel, and sell the PC1. You can always buy another one if you get bit by that bug again. The NAMM aspect of the Charvel is a cool reason to keep it. As Ian said, probably won't help resale value that much if you decide to part with it, but it's a cool detail.

Would never tell folks what to do with their money and free time but I got little care and even less respect for folks who acquire guitars to dust, keep in climate controlled environment and show them off. That's text book poser IMO. They should amend the inaccurate saying "Those who don't do, teach" to "Those that can't play, collect. You wanna impress folks? Learn how to fucking play it well, dude!
I'm aware that this is a country supposedly based on the notion of free market capitalism, and to that end I can't begrudge anyone who does it as a livelihood. But I'd guess it drives prices up by taking otherwise playable axes out of circulation and deprives others of the possibility of playing instruments created for the intended purpose of making music.

Whilst I can understand people getting carried away with guitars for each sound or substitutes so you don't wear the frets out, I reckon collecting guitars for collecting's sake is just plain wrong. They are not antiques, they are musical instruments, made for playing.

Although is it nice to come by a mint 1980's Charvel every now and then, the disappointment of the price tag that accompanies the article more than downs the elation of the find.

Speculators have brought this world of ours to its knees, increased fuel and food prices through speculation with pension and hedge funds, whilst the hard grafting working man picks up the tab as always. I'm already sick of seeing 'Mint' 2010 USA Pro Mods going for more than there original new list price last year.

Collecting is one thing, but guitar 'Investors' should be put against a wall and executed if it were up to me. The benefits they bring themselves with their 'Investments' hardly compares to the misery of the genuine players who are searching out models to actually play with all their hard earned cash.

Take the recent USA pro mods - there are a load of us on here searching for them, yet they've already exceeded their list price mint and used. Now if the 'Investors' had not have bought them in the first place, those of us hunting them down would be content and playing them already.

any guitar player worth his or her salt will tell you they buy high and sell low....

I play and I collect so that's complete bullshit. I've been playing and collecting charvels since the mid 80's. Some people see guitars as artwork and it makes them happy. It doesn't make them nerds. That sounds like an elitist remark imo
Don't worry - I'll smack her if it comes to that. You do not sell guitars to buy shoes. You skimp on food to buy shoes! ~Mrs Tekky 06-03-08~

I've known Dark Knight for a couple years now and have bought a few guitars from him. He's a cool guy and has some great guitars in his group. He asked me this question months ago, hoping he wouldn't have to sell either, which guitar would be better to hang on to. I think his post is genuine in trying to get a perspective from this group. He's got an idea what he wants to do but is looking for other thoughts or opinions that he might not have considered.

With that in mind, as I read this thread, there are a handful of responses that I think are helpful while others strayed a little from the original intent. But that is expected from internet forums. Just thought I would chime in since I know what DK was looking for.
