  • how do you stop a scam if its not a crime?

did you know that if you post something on CL or anywhere else and you get the i want it ,i'll send you a check response, then the check comes via fed ex overnight.
next correspondence as soon as package is signed for is (parphrasing)"OOPS!! My secretary cut my paycheck in your name can you cash it then wire the difference of the price of the item minus $100.00 to cover your time to a name in oklahoma"

I used to get the original emails like this back when Harmony central had a scroll down type classified section.....used to tell then to get fucked

this time i wanted to have fun, make up for past misdeeds so to say so i played along.
got a fed ex envelope here unopened, copies of emails and a name in oklahoma whom i am to wire the extra money too and his "local shipper ready to pick up my guitar tommorow night
A nice tidy package for local and/or federal law enforcement (crossing state lines to commit fraud) ready to hand to them ...... fish in a fuckin barrel
BUT...according to the wilmington police this a scam ,NOT A CRIME
if i walk into walmart and pay with a fake check, thats a crime.
but as it stands right now no crime against me has been committed so they cannot do anything.
BUT if i were to cash the fake check, wire the money and give my merchandise away..then its a crime but i am out the all the money plus merchadise and the assholes have moved on almost impossible to catch

this defy's all logic you would think that the cops would be race ready to PREVENT a crime .....

in the meantime i told the guy i was cashing the check tonight and was going to western union him the money tommorow afternoon just to fuck with him

still can't believe cops will let these guys get away with conspiring to do something like this and stand back and watch

Wilmington Police are idiots. Contact the Secret Service. They will give you an address to mail the check to.

I have an envelope full of that crap just for sh*ts and giggles.
The police here were not interested in them either, Len.
Even when I got fake travelers checks with all sorts of ripped off logos, still not interested.

        truly amazing

he emailed me this morning giving explicit instructions on where and how to send the money via western union etc... and then some

i replied"after i cashed the check and had all that money in my pocket instead of going to the computer store i relasped and went to my old crack dealers house instead....still foggy how i went through over two thousand dollars worth of crack in one night, sorry"

tough break, but yeah the cops don't want to stop this stuff...

Someone had stolen my banking numbers a few years ago and bought all kinds of server equiptment, wich was delivered to an address.... The bank refused to prosecute, they did refund all of my money - but I wanted to prosecute and was told I couldn't.....

I just hit the delete button. Trying to scam a scammer can be dangerous territory. There's a website for people who scam, scammers. Haven't been there in years, but it was funny and interesting to read some of the stories....cool to see justice served. But in the process of scamming a scammer, you are bordering on a scam yourself. Make sure you dot all the i's and cross all the t's. Slim to zero chance, but what if that guy was legit? Again, I choose to hit the delete button and spend my time doing something else.

went to my bank today,Citizen's bank and routing number are legit ,but if me or my bank want to verify funds they refer you to a 900 # that charges $10.00
my personal banker was astonished by this practice to say the least ..... copies of all emails and the check are being turned over to my banks fraud department.
                      not expecting much.

in the meantime ........i sent him back an email saying i borrowed the money from my sponsor and was told to make immediate ammends.
Hopefully between now and the time i hear back from from him i will not go on another crack binge

There's a website for people who scam, scammers
what got me was that he stated his ~shipper was going to be in the area this week ~ so i am guessing that allot of folks with higher dollar goods being sold in wilmington were offered the same opportunity as me and some might have fallen for it....he invested in sending me a check fed ex so ,once again i am guessing that a few more people in wilmington got this same envelope yesterday as well
its all speculation.as far aas dotting my i'and crossing my t's i never tried to cash this check but let them have a copy and supporting emails... called the cops, left a message withthe local FBI office, informed my federal probation officer of the situation and asked for her assistance

                      i'm covered

This is great. Always wanted to do this myself, but refuse to give my address to a scammer.
I did have the old PayPal scam come my way through a CL ad, and I took that one all the way through to the end where I got the "Oops! I sent you $100 too much, can you get my a money order for the extra amount and included it in the package?" email.

I then replied with "Thank you very much. That is all the information we need to complete our fraud report. We will be in touch."
