  • newer covers of classic songs?

I've found myself listening to killswitch engages cover of holy diver a lot lately, and I remember I used to love CoBs cover of rebel yell. What's you guys opinion on newer metal bands doing covers of classic metal songs? They're not usually spot on, the bands usually add their own flavor and I really like that.

Nevermore's cover of The Sound Of Silence is pretty cool. It's so different from the original, but the base of the song is still there. IMO thats what makes a good cover. You either have to try and nail the original but add enough of your own personality to make it different, or you need to make it outer space different but recognizable.

I love Metallicas Turn The Page. The KSE Holy Diver, ehh, its ok. The Showdowns Carry on My Wayward Son, pure garbage. I do strangely like Cakes War Pigs. Korns One and The Wall Pt.2, garbage. These are of course just my opinions.

Evergreen terrace actually has an album called writers block that's all covers. Some of them are kinda cool. I liked the cover of enjoy the silence, they make it metal cos depeche mode sucked. Lol

And cakes covers are always cool, dunno why but I dig their style.

It got overplayed on radio, but I thought the Five Finger Death Punch cover of Bad Company was great. I never liked the original much, but I love how they beefed it up, and the solo was killer.

Well, yes, that's pretty freakin' far from "singing" but you can't deny Chris Barnes has quite a unique & recognizable vocal style.

I've always enjoyed the covers that Van Halen did.

I like hearing newer bands pay some tribute to the old school.

Not particularly recent but one of my absolute cover favorites is Faith No More's cover of "Easy" by the Commodores. Jim Martin's solo is just dripping with fuzz.
