Look the 80s are back. People are more interested in what a guitar looks like rather than how it actually plays or sounds.............

The look of the Rosewood all depends on the care of the fretboard.

In the pic below, the top fretboard is a '94 Dinky Reverse. I've cleaned and oiled the fretboard when needed since I bought it in 1995. The bottom neck is a '95 dinky reverse that I got online. I took this pic the day after I got it. I agree that dry Rosewood don't look all that great. ON A NECK. But well cared for it looks great IMO.

Indian rosewood used in guitar construction today is usually pretty cheesy looking. And basically, they use every bit of it on the low-end stuff, there's no "not good enough" so you will see some guitars with fairly nice fretboards and others that look like driftwood.

Old-school rosewood is about as dense as most of the Ebony I see today, and had a nice, even reddish-brown color. Brazilian Rosewood is quite pricey and is very, very nice.

I would like to see more fretboards made of marble.

Lol. I have a few guitars with great looking Rosewood boards. Some of the stuff that's made today has lumpy Rosewood. It sounds good enough, but looks bad IMO.

It depends on the finish. I LOVE the rosewood on my Ererie dess/chrome RR3, but frickin hate it on other guitars I've owned.

Also, on aged Les Pauls rosewood looks very nice and gets a nice patina on it that's as nice as aged maple boards on a strat

I have unfinished Indian Rosewood neck and I think it is goageous.

Rosewood can be good if it's good quality but unfortunately high end furniture companies such as PRS hog all the supply.

                            :-)

I want to go out nice and peaceful in my sleep like my grandfather, not screaming and hollering like the passengers in his car.
