Well all is already covered here but I wanted to drop my 2 cents too.

From what I understand Dave doesn't mean "whammy bars can't be used in a good way" He uses the whammy bar himself.

He means, "people who can't solo should thank God for whammy bars" And there are a lot of guitar players that are really thankful from what I can see
