  • I need a beer from Sweden

    Bros,

If we have any of our members in Sweden who would do me a HUGE favor, I would literally kill for another bottle of Närke Kaggen Stormaktsporter.

Seriously. Please. If you can get some, PM me and I'll pay you.

    It's an amazing beer.

Ah, the beer that was declared the world's best? My initial reaction to the title of the thread was that Swedes buy their beer in Denmark for a reason

That's funny, I haven't been on the forum much the last few years, but I just moved to Sweden and thought there must be some members around, and came by to find out if maybe there's somebody I could jam with.

I could help you out, if it is possible to ship personally. A friend of mine a couple years ago tried to have his old roommate ship us some of my favorite beer from the US, and it apparently got rejected and returned to sender.. that could just be US rules though.

I know here in Canada it's against the law to ship alcohol through the mail. I did it once to the States but labeled it as "perfume" and it made it through.

Wow man, I haven't been on the forum much either for a while (too long). I think it's pretty funny that the first thing I see is a request for a beer brewed a couple of kilometers from my apartment...

I feel really stupid to admit that I haven't tasted it. Beer from this particular brewery isn't that easy to come by. There are only three pubs in my hometown that serve beer from "Närke Kulturbryggeri", and I think it'll be really, really hard to find a bottle of that beer... and perhaps even harder to get it to you in one piece.

I have to ask, where did you taste it in the first place?

Man, I hate snaps, it's so god awful I only ever drink it at our traditional Christmas lunches (as they are called) where we eat and drink for half a day and everybody gets super drunk. These Christmas lunches involve multiple dishes spread out over many hours and they usually start at noon and end at midnight (or when people are partied out). Just about every work place in Denmark organizes one each year or you have them with friends or family.

Hm, regarding importing beer, I suddenly recall that you're actually not allowed to bring certain kinds of foods or beverages with you when entering USA. I remember one time at Newark, customs were checking everybody out at the bagage claim with a dog. They weren't looking for drugs, they were looking for food (maybe they were also looking for drugs).

Better order some surströmming, that will make the customs happy

Yay! That's that shit that that bloke who is head of Swedish airport security was banging on about when I "accidentally" led him and his wife astray the other year. Apparently, it smells like Jade Goody's quim.

It's because Americans can't make proper beer, and the rest of the world doesn't want to become swamped with US Piss-water. (The funniest thing is to take an American piss artist out on the razzle, then watch him shit his strides when he starts glugging Wife-Beater and can't see straight after 2 pints.)

America makes horrible mass-produced cheap beer, mainly because most is made from cheap grain blends and almost no hops, but the craft & micro brewers here can hang with any in the world. Mass-produced beer in other places can be pretty good, mainly because the people there want good beer and won't buy shit. I just read a news story that sales are down at all the big brewers, but are way up for craft & micros no matter how expensive, in spite of the horrible economy. The average American is finally getting a taste for good beer and is willing to pay more for it. It's pretty funny reading facebook posts about the latest micro-brew discovery by friends of mine who would've called you a pussy ten years ago for not drinking Budweiser.

                          Well put, dg.

I am from the west coast, and by the time I hit drinking age, micro brews were all the rave there, so I never really got into Bud, Coors, or PBR. Even as a poor college student, I was paying 3 to 5 bucks per 22 oz. bottle of micro, rather than 10 bucks for a 12 pack of Bud. It was all about quality over quantity.

My brother in law is the opposite. If it tastes vaguely beer-like and smells vaguely beer like and he can get 24 for the price of 12 real beer, thats all that matters.
