Well, if guys adjust and just play to the new rules, I dont think I'll even notice. But if it means that more penalties will end up being called all the time then, yeah, it will suck. I enjoy hockey because of the fast pace and constant action so I dont think I will miss all the big hits.

Well in all fairness last season was a nasty one. Remember the ass who cheap-shotted Crosby and sent him out with a concussion the first game he came back from a previous concussion?

Personally I think the league would do better to crack down on ref-pucking than on hits since that was a bigger problem last season (especially during the playoffs)

The redwing player did embelish but the Leafs player did hit him in the head. Soft and brushing aren't in the language, just head contact. If guys don't get a clue by the time preseason is over they better expect to spend a lot of time sitting forfeiting salary.

Personally, I think it would be great if the NHL introduced replay calls in the game, as in, having a TV in the scorekeeper's booth where they can go and watch the replay and make the call.

Those videos and some of the calls ARE ridiculous, but it doesn't take away the fact that some players are out there looking to take others out of the game. It's a contact sport, all right, but there's a thick bright line between taking players out of the play and taking them out of the game.

Besides, intimidation doesn't work anymore. The ones with skills are the ones that win. You would think 5'11, 180-pounder Mikhail Grabovski would have been intimidated by 7'0 Zdeno Chara destroying him twice in the same game... He still came out with 2 goals and the win because he has skills and doesn't take shit from anybody. That's how you play hockey.

I have a feeling we'll be seeing lots of duving this season knowing the zero-tolerance policy. It was FIFA levels of bad last season and it'll be worst this season

Well, elbow to the head. He'll get it eventually after he's kicked out of a bunch of games. If he took the body instead of throwing his arm out as far as he could reach there wouldn't have even been a stoppage.

Honestly, I cannot see any impact, you don't even see his head rebound as if he had been knocked on by said elbow.

He extended his arm, it caught Semin's face, Semin took it to his advantage.

Yup... That's why I think reviewing replays for calls like these should fit appropriately.

They already do it for questionable goals, why couldn't they do it for questionable hits?

Because there is only 4-5 goal events per game and there are 50-80 hits. It would kill any pace and flow.

I do think there should be after the fact fines and suspensions for plays determined to be a dive, but the PA would never let that fly.
