There will be this year. ANY incedental contact with the head will be reviewed. They might as well take hitting out of the game and make it a powerplay fest. Oh, wait, thats exactly what it will be this year.
Its a complete catastrophe. But Im a professional, I can rise above it. LOL

But the worst part about the macarthur hit on abdelkader is NEITHER ref called a penalty.

At least Shanny is being consistent and giving video explanations. As long as he's consistent players will learn. With Campbell there was no rhyme or reason to suspending, durations of suspension and whatnot. 3 plays, all identical. one i suspended a game, one is suspended 4 games and the third one there is no suspension.

Divers need to be suspended too, this used to be a mans game. Play soccer if you want to dive.

IMO, this rule will take most of the big hitting out of the game. No one is gonna risk a 5mim major + a game+ suspension + $$$ to make a big hit anymore. Soon its gonna be the allstar game every game. Sucks.

I don't know Cliff, I'll give it a chance. There are so many opportunities in the game of hockey to make contact that do not entail the head so there still will be plenty of hitting. Players will learn the rule if enforced consistently. I'd rather see them pad the rock hard shoulder pads and elbow pads and just get tougher intentional blows to the head myself. I played D for a lot and I never looked at the head, I looked at the chest and when I nailed someone I could care less where the head was so that will be a hard habit to break but if players want to avoid suspension they need to study the videos and know what they can and can't get away with.

Couldn't happen to a nicer guy. It's good IMO. Send the message that just because you managed to do it while no officials were looking, doesn't mean you get a freebie. The big question is why the officials didn't call it or see it since the play was on the puck.

Im a hawks fan. I dont care for carcillo... Both refs saw the play. Neither called anything. Its a joke.

Losing a lifelong fan slowly but surely. Battles in front of the net? Penalty. Battles along the boards? Turn your back and let them hit you. Penalty/suspension. Open ice? Just skate with your head down. No one can touch you. If they do? Penalty, 5+ a game.

Just put the ballerina uniforms on.

Yeah you can definitely see guys turning away from hits this season to either stop the hit from happening or to draw a penalty. It's like when they took away strikes to the back of the head in MMA. You'd get guys who would just turtle, but leave the back of their head wide open begging for a KO shot.

Not gonna lie; the way the Failers have been playing lately has pissed me off royally. Now they've lost almost as many games as they've won. That sucks.
